HIM Review,
By Nicole (Pineland, FL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Greatest Love Songs 666 (Audio CD)
I was rather dissapointed by the awful review's of this CD. I love the band and consider all of there CD's to be the best one's in my collection. Ville Valo's lyrics just pull you into a different reality. The bands songs mixed with the Chris Isaak and Blue Oyster Cult's covers of Wicked Game and Don't Fear (The Reaper) make the CD better than imaginable. I don't care what the other reviews say I would consider this one of my favorite CD's.

One of the Strongest Debuts of any Band,
By Gene Jacket (Tylerdome, Tx) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Greatest Love Songs 666 (Audio CD)
Ok, this review is going to be long as there is much to to talk about when it comes to this band. First off, to shup up all you people who know little to nothing about music or the industry that surrounds it, calling HIM a goth or satanic band is like calling Black Sabbath or The Smahing Pumpkins goth. HIM is simply a great rock band, albiet with some definate gothic influences. This band, unlike most bands today, has a style all its own, and if you want to call them goth, satanic, or downright blasphemous go ahead, but youde be idiotic in doing so. All of HIMs' albums are crafted with skill and display something typical rock bands of today are devoid of, vision and talent. Ville Valo and company know what theyre doing, which is fairly evident if you look at theyre musical progression. Theyve combined metal, straight forward rock, and pop influences to become a well oiled machine, capable of doing more in 3 albums than most artists do in 10. Greatest Lovesongs Vol. 666 stands as one of the strongest debut albums in recent memory. From the album opener "Your Sweet 666" to the beautifuly dark "For You", this album could infact be a collection of some of the greatest lovesongs ever written. HIM uses terms like "death" and "666" as metaphors for love, and the feelings that surround being in love. The only reason I can think of why anyone would not be satisfied with anyone of HIMs records if because thyve digested too much mindless, substance-less, and pointlessly angry b.s. that america passes off as rock. Take a minute and think, have there been any american rock bands, in the last 5 years that will be remebered as being great? I know I cant think of any. HIM does not write songs for 15-16 year olds who dont know who they are, they dont write songs full of teen angst, they dont write about drugs, killing, or how many cars they have. They write for people who want love, and know what true love is. So get this album, sit with it, let Valos amazing vocals completely captivate you, then tell me what you think of HIM.

HIM is the best...,

So, some other reviewer wrote something along the lines of 'HIM sucks, well actually theyre really just the same as some other older bands, so go get these bands instead: "old bauhaus, christian death or sisters of mercy album" '.
Well believing that they might actually sound similar I downloaded some random such tracks (thinking I would find stuff that almost measured up to HIM), but I really can't imagine how someone could think that. Also, I got a random peter murphy track (who this reviewer claims Ville is trying to emulate)...I don't notice much of any similarity there -- was this like a joke posting or something? Anyway, obviously anyone who has listened to HIM for a while knows they are amazing stuff -- I think they may have like a single track that I didn't like, and it was the cover of Rebel Yell. But whatever, Greatest Love Songs is great, and check out the newer Dark Light too! (Killing Loneliness is like my favorite song these days...)
