PRINCE (The Producer) has returned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,
By Justin Ostoforoff (Nanaimo, B.C CANADA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Greatest Romance Ever Sold (Audio CD)
From his forthcoming album on November 9th 1999 that is being distributed through Arista Records, is this first single. First of all I love the cover. Parke has the best ideas! I love the plug on the back (He's holding a copy of the forthcoming album "Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic"). The song is amazing. When I first heard it I thought it was ok with a catchy chorus but after hearing over and over again I realize how brilliant it really is. It must be heard lots to be appreciated but that doesn't usually happen on radio stations around where I live, they play it once in awhile and that's it. That's why it won't be a big hit on the radio, they'll just keep on replaying that other sampled crap. The hook in the track is amazing ("So this is where you end - and you and I begin") and the chorus will just get implanted in your brain. The remix is awesome as well. It has an instrumental part in it that has sounds of synthesizers that Prince used to use in the years of 81-82 but it's not dated sounding at all. Eve has a fair and respectable part on the remix. chorus and a bit of the bridge), it should (sometimes) feature someone else on the track, it should contain some new lyrics (all new lyrics except for chorus and bridge) and it should be funky (It really is), not just some cheap programmable drum beat for the clubs with the exact vocals from the original version. Another point about the original version, I'm glad he album version will be about a minute longer. I hate when I get an album version on a single! I think i've said enough on this single. (I'm still a little upset that it wasn't up here in the stores meaning I had to pay about $16 on top of the price to get it to me from Amazon.com [Good old Amazon.com]). Be prepared for "Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic" on November 9th because it's going to be good..........

Okay, since da man can do virtually no wrong musically, my review is positive. If he could run his web site and business like david bowie runs his, i think we would all be a lot happier.and just who do you think the artist is targeting now as an audience? (hint, look at 1999 - the remaster.)

I have been a Prince music lover since the beginning of his career back in 1978...For You... and I really dig this tune. I hope that it gets it's props because it is very catchy and it stays with u after the groove is long gone. Keep the funk alive!!!

I will never understand if people are just tone deaf, have no rhythm or just prefer music that has no depth. When I first heard this song I got the same excited feeling I did when I first heard Purple Rain. He's done, as be for, again, and again. It amazes me how people can dog out 0(+> and like another artist who has no talant, and can only sample 0(+>. Go get this single your woman will enjoy it. So you can enjoy her!!!!

When do Artist fans become critics? When they give him anything less than 4 stars. C'mon people! I've read the reviews below & they're very mixed. "disapointed" "not his best" *ONE THING EVERYBODY FORGOT TO MENTION*: Even the Artist's "mediocre" stuff is still LIGHT YEARS BETTER than other musicians' "best"! And he IS AN ACTUAL MUSICIAN - something that pop around the world is missing. What we have flooding the airwaves today are personalities / entertainers / puppets. Most of the songs on the radio today aren't written by "artists" at all but by producers. The Artist, on the other hand, writes/ composes/ arranges/ produces/ records/ performs/ lives/ breathes/ births EVERYTHING *HIMSELF*... and you can hear/feel it. The *Artist* is exactly that. Nobody could ever duplicate his craftsmanship / purefunksoul. And he's still doing his thang after 2 decades. He's going on stronger than ever COMPLETELY INDEPENDANT of major label support. This is where we (his friends) step in. BUY THIS CD!!! And as for those doubting his funk: check out the solo on track 2 (starting at 3:14)! I play guitar... and THAT IS FUNKY. If you don't like the single when you first hear it, try listening to it at night. If you still don't like it...

One to grow on,

When I read about the review party, I read that they played this song three times for the press. Now I know why. Like many (most) I love Prince and like most, I was really (really) looking forward to the release of RAVE. SO I got the single and listened and was not overwhelmed. But I played it over and over and now it is in my mind. It is one of the groviest songs I've heard in a looong time. I think about and smile. I wouldn't say prince is back. He never went anywhere.

This song might not be as good as past classics like 1999,When Doves Cry,Purple Rain,Kiss,Cream, etc.,but it did have alot of potential of being a major top 40 hit even though it peaked at no.63 on the pop charts, which I think is due to the delay of it's music video.Nonetheless, this song is very original and shows that The Artist has returned to form.
