One of the best inspirational books, July 30, 2011
This review is from: The Greatest Salesman in the World (Mass Market Paperback)
If someone reads this book to become the best salesman, he or she reads it for all the wrong reasons. This book is an inspiration to live ones life to the fullest. The true inspiration comes actually from inability to make the first sale and gain through kindness incredible wealth. Perhaps the greatest reward presented is on the end of the book where the salesman, now on his death bed, comes face to face with the true reason for his full and happy life again presented in his first unsuccessful sale.
It is a true marvel of literary work.

"You can change your life with the priceless wisdom of ten ancient scrolls handed down for thousands of years.", December 7, 2011
This review is from: The Greatest Salesman in the World (Mass Market Paperback)
This little book is an easy read that essentially contains the secret of success. The story is set in the time of Christ and follows the passing of ancient scrolls of wisdom from one salesman to the next. Each scroll holds a challenge for change that the previous, well known, and respected salesman has perfected. He then charges his chosen successor to do likewise. The scrolls are designed for success in the field of sales, but can be applied to any profession or personality. Each scroll contains a habit to adopt with a promise that when you have truly habituated all of the principles you will find success and satisfaction with your life.
I read this book within just a few weeks, but plan to read it again with a different perspective. The idea is that you read and re-read one scroll several times a day for a month or until you feel that principle has become habit. I already feel that I have a new outlook on life from just reading straight through the scrolls. I can only imagine the improvements I could make from really diving into living the principles found in them.
Personally I found that Og Mandino did an excellent job of capturing and motivating his audience in this short novel. I enjoyed reading it and felt drawn back to it in order to find out what wisdom the next scroll would hold for me. It was difficult not to read ahead even though the purpose is to discover one scroll at a time. This is a book that my father has read many times and as I was reading the advice in the scrolls, I recognized similarities and even quotes that he has guided me with when I have looked to him for guidance throughout my life. I've always thought my dad had great advice and that's part of what drew me to this book. I wasn't a bit disappointed.
I am excited to re-read this book and focus on one scroll at a time. One of my favorite scrolls is scroll number two which reads, "I will greet this day with love in my heart. For this is the greatest secret of success in all ventures." It goes on to talk about looking on all things, speaking, acting, and reacting with love, and most of all to love oneself. Just think of the difference there would be in the world if everyone tried to live up to the knowledge in this scroll... and there are nine more! I believe that if they were to read it with the right attitude "The Greatest Salesman in the World," is a book that could lead anyone to happiness and success.
