Buyer Beware,

I'll admit right up front that I bought this CD for one song, and for one song only, "Come and Get Your Love." This is a deeply treasured classic from my central Kansas sixth-grade days at the local lunch counter, playing nickel pinball and listening to the jukebox. It was resurrected unexpectedly, delightfully, maybe even respectfully in that ridiculous, overblown, post-apocalyptic Costner vehicle, The Postman, and for that alone I'll give the man some credit. I love this song, and always will. All I wanted was a copy of the original on CD. I could care less about the rest of the tracks on the CD, and yeah, I was willing to lay out the [money amount], just for this one song alone.
And I got burned for it. Buyer beware: this is not the original, nor are any of the other tracks on this rip-off of a recording. This is not a Redbone album; all of the tracks are weak, lame covers. First, note the amazing cheezy tray card and titling, that "Redbone" in a hokey pseudo-German Gothic font, the ultra-low rent colors, the stock background, the general lack of any kind of artistic imagination or label expenditure anywhere on the packaging. Second, note the label: Curb Records out of Nashville, TN. Me, I've got the original Redbone Wovoka on vinyl, Epic #32462, and this isn't even close. Hell, I've never heard of Curb Records, and I own a good 500 vinyl albums, 200+ cassettes, and over 1200 CDs. Third, note the exceedingly crafty and thoroughly underhanded title, "Redbone: Greatest Songs." That's a major albeit subtle clue. If it said "Greatest Hits," then it would be the tracks from the original artist. Not so here, and the first sorry notes on the opening track confirm it. Your fourth clue to the real nature of these recordings is a tiny little blurb in the liner notes stating, "All tracks courtesy of Dominion Entertainment, Inc." Who are they, and what do they have to do with Redbone? Nothing, apparently. The only thing this sorry album has to do with Redbone is its title. Do not waste your money on this sad CD. Me, I'm giving it to my children as something shiny to play with; it will be more fun and of more use to them than it will to me, as I've got no desire to play it again. I've listened to this highway truckstop bargain bin, low-budge, generic knockoff recording once all the way through, and I've got no interest in suffering through it again.

Redbone's Greatest Songs - Come and Get Your Love,

If you're looking for Redbone's original recordings of Come and Get Your Love and Witch Queen of New Orleans, you will be very disappointed with these apparent remakes. The title is tricky - Redbone's Greatest Songs, but they are NOT the hit versions.

Redbone Greatest Songs,
By A Customer
This review is from: Greatest Songs (Come And Get Your Love) (Audio CD)
To be truthful I was disappointed! Not that I do not enjoy Redbone's music, it is just that the CD was not the original recording when they first began, that was actually what I was looking for. I should have listened to the CD before I purchased it. I have always been proud of Redbone and I attended their concert when they played in Edmonton in the early 70's, it was the greatest! Lolly Vegas still sings the way he always has in Maggie, but the music was not what I remember. The same applies to the rest of the CD, except for Suzi Girl. Regardless, I am looking for Redbone's Golden Classics and I will most likely enjoy it, if it is the original. Does anyone out there have this CD?

REDBONE-GREATEST SONGS: REDBONE fans (I know you're out there), BEWARE! Unfortunately, this is a batch of "new versions" which, while far from awful, are a far cry from the funked up RNB-heavy hits by America's greatest all-Indian rock group. Tribe leaders Pat and Lolly Vegas were quite capable of turning out a catchy ditty and their two biggest, the swamp-infested WITCH QUEEN OF NEW ORLEANS and soulful smash COME AND GET YOUR LOVE are both here; so is the lesser known jam band hit MAGGIE, a cover of POISON IVY, and the historical account WE WERE ALL WOUNDED AT WOUNDED KNEEIt's just a shame that REDBONE, like so many classic rockers a couple of decades past their expiration date, felt the need to re-record their catalogue for a quickie cash-in; the no-budget album cover art is a dead giveaway. Their legacy deserves better than GREATEST SONGS and the 23 track GOLDEN CLASSICS is just that. Seek it out instead...it's the most fun since the Heckowis ruled the roost on F TROOP!RATING: TWO "UGH"S

I used to listen to Redbone and did not know or my head was not into it back then that they were basicly the first American Indian group out there. I am deep within my roots of my ancestors now and play the American Indian Flute, drums, rattles, etc. Working on building a new group and perform soully with other instruments recorded behind me. Just released my 15th CD, "Red Grass" and glad to add This CD of Redbone to my personal collection. I think it is a must have! Blessings Wa-D0' TerryLee
