Om Amrtesvaryai Namah! A masterful retelling of the "Sani Mahatmyam" with a wonderful personal touch as in all his writings. This book very expertly shows the effects of the planets on one's everyday life, and offers an object lesson in why we must pursue spirituality as if our lives depended on it. 3.0 out of 5 stars I don't get it
I really don't understand what this is supposed to be about. I certainly didn't get anything meaningful out of it. The points made about the various grahas are very basic themes familiar to anyone who knows something about jyotish. The Saturn story is an elaboration of the trials and tribulations of sade sati, but I didn't really get anything out of it. I would like...

All i can say is Thankyou Robert Svoboda, and when may we expect the next delicious morsel from you? Om Namah Sivaya! visvanathan

5.0 out of 5 stars THANKS TO THIS BOOK, I FEAR SATURN NO LONGER.., April 3, 2001
By A Customer
I've studied Western astrology for over 30 years. I would always have a feeling of fear around the planet Saturn, whether in a natal chart or transit. I learned about this book in the Book Reviews of The Mountain Astrologer magazine, a publication I find a necessity of life! When I bought the book, I was going through some major life challenges. This book taught me that I needed an attitude adjustment when it came to Saturn. Due to this book, I did not give up on myself during those challenges. Two years later, I find that things I used to dread I now welcome into my life because they've helped me grow spiritually. Saturn has taught me, through the mythology in this book, how to RESPECT boundaries and limits. More importantly, it has helped ME set boundaries (around myself) for others to respect.

This is a book you must read if you are an astrologist. This is about great wisdom of the ages which we can apply in our lives today! Blessings...

5.0 out of 5 stars This book will heal you, August 2, 1998
By A Customer
This is about the greatness of a book. In a sensitive way Robert Svoboda tells us an old story from India. He tells it in a way that touches the soul, not just the mind. This book will not just inform you, it will heal you. In Vedic Astrology, the planet Saturn causes a lot of trouble. If something goes wrong in your life you can bet Saturn has something to do with it. You should not run away from Saturn. You should embrace Lord Saturn, who certainly has his own beauty. That is what this book is about. This book will help you to become friends with Lord Saturn. It will definitely change your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars The therapeutic myth, August 23, 1999
By A Customer
This therapeutic myth on the Greatness of Saturn by Robert Svoboda presents the ancient, Vedic, Puranic and Tantric knowledge in a modern language appealing to all people in the world. Dr. Svoboda has done an excellent job in presenting the materials, appealing to those who know, or not know Sanskrit.

Dr. Svoboda has communicated his deep and profound understanding of Jyotir and Aurvedic knowledge. It is a fortune that I came across this book through Sri Prasannan Herke, the astrologer in the Amma (Mata Amritanandamayi Devi) Ashram. I am thankful to him for pointing to this book. Amma's infinite Grace and Blessings have made this all possible.

May Lord Saturn shower Sri Svoboda with His Grace and Blessings for making this book available to all. May Lord Saturn shower His Grace and Blessings to all you readers of the book by ending the difficulties in your lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars An enlightening book, September 12, 2003
By
Rahul Gupta (Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India) - See all my reviews
I found this book while on a business trip to Bangalore and was inexplicably motivated to buy it, even though I had never heard of Dr Svoboda before. Perhaps I was fated to buy this book -- as one who has had a significant influence of LORD SATURN on his life.

I found the book to be one that gives a lot of information on not only LORD SATURN but also the various other "grahas", their influences (beneficial and malignant), and an outline/summary of the methods of propitiating them. And, of course, it has a wealth of information on LORD SATURN. Dr Svoboda has done a lot of study to write this book and his "Bhakti Bhav" (loosely meaning "Devotional Attitude") comes through very well in the book.

Thanks to Dr Svoboda for enabling me to access this ancient wisdom culled from various old, rare texts of Hinduism in various languages.

And most of all, thanks to LORD SATURN for motivating me to pick up and read this book, thereby enabling even me (of admittedly insufficient knowledge)to understand His powers.

5.0 out of 5 stars There for the taking, May 22, 2009

This review is from: The Greatness of Saturn: A Therapeutic Myth (Paperback)
Firstly, I feel it is incorrect to rate such work. This is a piece of work
which is well beyond the need to be rated in anyway, it lives in its own uniqueness and authority, therefore, creating its own standard.

It is one of those books that will take you to a different world; as you read you will be transported to the dimension of Saturn. This book is a blessing to those who hold it, for Saturn has chosen you to learn the easy way.. because his ways can be quite harsh indeed. Reading about King Vikramaditya's encounter with Saturn will enrich you with an insight to Saturn's tremendous energy and make you understand how Saturn works in order for you to play out your role in destiny without deviating from the 'One Reality'.

Robert Svoboda has also done a fantastic job in explaining the subtleties of Vedic mythology and how to approach and understand them correctly so they can create abundant blessings in your life.

This book is highly recommended for YOU...!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent astrological remedial measure for Saturn, November 2, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Greatness of Saturn: A Therapeutic Myth (Paperback)
The greatness of Saturn is a wonderful resource for Vedic Astrologers and those in need of guidance in working with Saturn's influence. I've read this book at least 30 times, and every time I find a deeper meaning, both spiritually, yogically, and astrologically. When I need to advise a remedial measure for my astrological client's in regards to Saturn, this is usually my first choice. It helps to clarify and really bring home why we do other remedial measures. This book also gives excellent descriptions of the other planets, and I often quote it to my astrology students during workshops. You can't go wrong with this book.

Best Wishes,
Ryan Kurczak

This book contains a living myth concerning the planet Saturn. It is a myth everyone should either hear or read in order to learn about and explore the subtle and not so subtle effects that the planets in our galaxy have on us. It contains information regarding our personal karma that we need to go thru and process in our lifetime and some ways to lessen the effects of that approaching karma. The more you read or listen to this therapeutic myth the deeper your understanding of the roles that the planets play in our lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Self-discipline, hardwork and humility astrology aspects, March 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Greatness of Saturn: A Therapeutic Myth (Paperback)
"The Greatness of Saturn," utilizes the journey of mythos telling a story for each of the energies in our lives as the planets move from one astrological house to another, changing and utilizing our own personal energies to accomplish.

Saturn, when approached with great humility can be utilized as one's best friend through one's own personal self-discipline in the natal place (birth place) in one's chart.

Saturn shows us where it is that we must embrace personal inner discipline to be successful beyond our widest dreams.

Within we know and understand that we must utilize moderation in all things and live within our means to really have successful accomplishments. The planetary aspects to one's personal natal Saturn are the key to assist one to embrace this inner source of strength, and accept it as one's disciplinary path, that is real maturity.

"The price," and "The reward," are synonymous.

For me, "the price," of Saturn in Leo was that I could not speculate, and if I had children I would have problems with them. Therefore I chose the alternative of living below my means and not having children. The polarity of Aquarius in my second house of resources and how I made money and what I shared with others directly affected my finances. Therefore, I had to live within these limitations and accept them, I chose non-desire. I knew what I would like, kept it in mind, and time would bring the right situation wherein I could afford what it was that I wanted, without undue excesses.

Saturn requires long, disciplined service, and it is through this particular aspect of saving any money I could and initially paying off all debt except the mortgage of my home and the mortgage of a rental property, and parlaying rental monies into various long-term investments, that assisted me as a baby boomer to emerge into an early retirement to simply be a "resources manager," and to create "wealth preservation," through great self-discipline and persoal humility, not allowing myself to be tempted by the temptations of the times and by the world. The greatness of Saturn's inner powers of disciplined hard work in creating my own wealth preservation, assisted me to be a sovereign in my own terms.

The mythos of this book is to assist each of us to embrace our inner powers and utilize them to their greatest effects. But, one must spend time with the mythos and learn to utilize one's inner eye to see how best one can utilize humility and self-discipline to win one's personal game while helping others in the process!!!!!
