Book Description

March 17, 2007 Seal Women's Travel
Greece, it has been said, is where art became inseparable from life. The country evokes a richly embroidered tapestry of images, from old monuments rife with history to idyllic isles of glass-blue sea and blinding white stucco dwellings. Greece enchants its visitors with its beauty, tradition, and spirit.

In this eloquent collection, women share firsthand experiences of the people, history, and landscape of Greece. Their essays go beyond ordinary travelogue to capture the ways in which Greece has shaped lives or influenced decisions. In expressing their love for the country, these women share stories as visceral as they are poignant, as entertaining as they are endearing.

Whether they are seasoned travelers or armchair adventurers, Greece aficionados or those just beginning to learn about the country, readers of this compelling collection will gain a better understanding of Greece and how experiences abroad can impact their lives.

More About the Author

I was born in New Jersey, in a big Sicilian family. I moved to San Francisco in 1973. I wanted to be a travel writer. Because of my love of food, I became a food writer first. Then a travel writer. I've lived abroad twice--in France, in 1976, where I did some graduate work. And most recently, I spent the last year and a half in Buenos Aires, a place I never expected to like so much---but tango took hold of me, and there I found myself, dancing away. The book contract came after I was there six months and realized I had a story to tell. And so I did, in Tango, an Argentine Love Story.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a wonderful book, June 6, 2007
This review is from: Greece, A Love Story: Women Write about the Greek Experience (Seal Women's Travel) (Paperback)
I can't express how wonderful this book was. I may not be Greek by birth, but I am in my heart. While I go to Greece yearly, I long to be there year-round. This book has helped me connect to my favorite place when I have to be in the States. It is great to read some of the other women's experiences and see how they parallel my own. I highly recommend this book to any woman who loves Greece.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed..., June 12, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Greece, A Love Story: Women Write about the Greek Experience (Seal Women's Travel) (Paperback)
After reading the reviews, I bought this book as preparation for my upcoming trip to Greece. Disappointed by the superficial caracter of the histories:some weathy women's trip and their narrow views on Greek culture;over Greek machisme; some superficial experience of Greek food, etc. I did not learn much from their stories and even, it's waste of time. Now I learn that the reviews of others would not correspond always to that of everyone.
