She's Done It Again,

This review is from: Greedy Bones (Sarah Booth Delaney Mysteries) (Hardcover)
Master Storyteller Carolyn Haines has done it again. The Sarah Booth Delaney mysteries set in the Mississippi Delta just get better and better. After a fling in Hollywood, Sarah Booth is back again on the rich black soil of the Delta, only to find friends seriously ill from some strange malady that seems to come only from a nearby plantation. Haines characters are totally endearing, including the beloved haint who lives in her family home. The humor sprinkled among the pages is delightful. The plot is fast and furious and fabulous. How this writer manages to plant so many red herrings, produce unexpected twists, and keep the reader up all night trying to find the answer is pure genius.
It may come as a surprise to some, but Mississippians can not only read, can they ever write! Carolyn Haines has that inborn talent that carries this tradition of excellent story telling to the top of the class. She crafts her characters well, and she knows the land of which she writes. Grab yourself a glass of sweet tea, or adult beverage of your choice, pull up the big rocker on the front porch of the plantation home and enjoy. Don't miss this one. Highly recommended.

Sarah Booth and the ladies of Zinnia's further adventures,
This review is from: Greedy Bones (Sarah Booth Delaney Mysteries) (Hardcover)
This is the latest of the Sarah Booth Delaney series. About the series, Sarah Booth returned to her Zinnia roots after trying to launch herself as an actress in New York City. Desperate to save her old ancestral home and find a niche for herself in Zinnia, Sarah Booth becomes an unintentional private detective.
While the series requires the suspension of disbelief (it comes complete with a resident "haint" -- Sarah Booth's personal ghost at the house), the books are fast paced, tremendous fun with a full roster of recurring characters and friends from Zinnia. Similar to a cozy, but Sarah Booth is more likely to found drinking Jack Daniels than tea. In this installment, Sarah Booth Delaney returns to Zinnia after her foray to Hollywood to find multiple people, including her friend and partner's husband, seriously ill and hospitalized with an unknown ailment. The only thing in common--all had been at a local plantation with remarkably well-developed cotton plants. The sick are getting sicker and time is running out. Sarah Booth and her friends must find out the source of this mysterious ailment before more fall. This was a great, fun, fast read and I highly recommend the series. However, if you haven't yet read any of the others, this might not be the best introduction to the series.

Terrible book,

This review is from: Greedy Bones (Sarah Booth Delaney Mysteries) (Mass Market Paperback)
Thus book was such a disappointment, that I will never buy another book by this writer. It is unnecessarily gory, a contived unbelievable plot and an absurd ending. It is not worthy of one star. I own several books in this series and the latest one is the worst, although a couple others wrer disappointing. I will not waste any more money on this writer.

I've enjoyed every one of these 'Bones' books. Sarah Booth is trying to find out what has made her best friend's husband, and several other locals, deathly ill. It all seems to stem from an old deserted plantation with a horrid past. Very good reading.

she just gets better and better,

This review is from: Greedy Bones (Sarah Booth Delaney Mysteries) (Hardcover)
Sarah Booth Delaney is one of my most favorite fictional character's to ever reside within the pages of a book. Wading into the pool of scientific mayhem associated with genetically altered crops and virus vs bacteria, in Greedy Bones, I thought she'd almost gotten in over her head a time or two in this episode of what is new with Sarah Booth and the good folks of Zinnea, Mississippi.
Carolyn Haines has an imagination equivalent of Merlin's magic, and if I didn't know her better, I'd almost have to say she's outdone herself with this one, but I do know her better, and Greedy Bones just wets my appetite for what will come next in the world of Sarah Booth Delaney. She just gets more and more interesting with each book. Where ever Carolyn takes these folks, you can rest assured, you will want to go with them.

Great Bones!,

This review is from: Greedy Bones (Sarah Booth Delaney Mysteries) (Hardcover)
My only aggravation with Greedy Bones is that I didn't start at the beginning of Haines's Bones series. I loved the book, a cozy with subtle paranormal tendencies. Sarah Booth Delaney is an unexpected investigator--actually an actress with plenty of curiosity and love of her hometown and childhood friends. She leaves Tinsel Town to head home and support close friends in a dior and deadly situation. As she investigates the strange cotton crop in Sun Flower County, she puts herself in danger time and time again.
Carolyn Haines is my new favorite cozy writer. I highly recommend this series to all who love a good mystery without gruesome scenes. Hats off to Haines from one mystery writer to another!

fun lighthearted paranormal mystery,
This review is from: Greedy Bones (Sarah Booth Delaney Mysteries) (Hardcover)
The CDC agents come to Zinnia, Mississippi where a nasty illness is leaving people in comas on the brink of death. A drama queen by DNA, Sarah Booth Delaney also travels to Zinnia, her hometown to help friends and family cope. The actress and private investigator stays at her family's ancestral home while worrying about her P.I. partner and best friend Tinkie Richmond, whose husband Oscar has caught the illness.
Tinkie tells Sarah Booth that Oscar became deathly ill after visiting the Carlisle cotton plantation; a place overwhelmed by weird boll weevils, a mold, and a curse. Sarah Booth intrigued by the horror film like script of reality; has her Hollywood boyfriend Graf Milieu take a breather preferably on the West Coast. She prefers one hunk at a time and that is handsome Sheriff Coleman Peters who she teams up with to investigate while the deaths pile up; ironically not from the disease, but from the usual southern custom of shootings and hangings. The latest Sarah Booth tale may be the best in this fun lighthearted paranormal mystery series (see WISHBONES). The story line is fast-paced while the heroine is her usual courageous madcap investigative self; who knows that all native Mississippians understand you heed the family haint's advice though you do not understand what in hell the spirit is saying, you distrust Fed or state theories but trust intelligent design theories of mama, and you avoid cursed plantations as if they are quarantined. Fans will enjoy GREEDY BONES as Sarah Booth is on the case. Harriet Klausner

Another winner from Carolyn Haines. She kept me on the edge of my chair through the whole book. This one took a while to figure out and was quite shocking to find out who done it. Highly recommend it to all who enjoy a good mystery.
