5.0 out of 5 stars Greek American History, February 6, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Greek Americans: Struggle and Success (Paperback)
In my lifetime, this is the second time I have purchased this book. This is an newer edition and follows the continued immigrant story of the Greeks who came to American in the 1960's and after. We have too few of these books which are researched, footnoted, and indexed. So I add to my collection so that my child and future generations will know the story of how the earliest to the more recent Greeks arrived in America and lived fruitful lives.

A must read for all Greek Americans and their extended family. Anyone researching the immigration of their Greek ancestors will love the details of their struggles and successes; extensive footnotes. Excellent read.

4.0 out of 5 stars New Edition Coming Out in 2013, February 17, 2011
By
This review is from: Greek Americans: Struggle and Success (Paperback)
There is a Third Edition that is due to be published in 2013. The First Edition came out in 1980. The Second Edition came out in 1989, and was updated in 1994, I believe.

This is a great book and I highly recommend for Greek-American studies. Covers almost everything about the Greeks in the Americas: from the theory that Christoper Columbus was a Byzantine Greek noble from Chios (thus the possibility that the Greeks discovered America), the 1760's Greek colony in Spanish Florida of 'New Smyrna,' and so on.

This Second Edition is dated and could have covered a lot more ground. But it's value is still recognized. Not intended to be a comprehensive history of Greeks in the Americas, I suppose.
