Product Description

Imagine waking up in the middle of the night and wondering whether where you were in San Francisco or San Diego, Silicon Valley or Seattle, New Delhi or Nashville - this humorous photo story of a modern Nomad describes the first hand experiences of a Hi-tech immigrant who moves to Nashville from Silicon Valley and beautifully captures Nashville as seen by a West coast migrant, combining his stunning imagination with equally stunning imagery, making us feel we are driving through the streets of Tennessee with him.

He brings the contrast and similarities between the west coast and Tennessee beautifully, using colorful words and photographs, and to share his state of mind as he is tossed around by his destiny:

"The snowflakes descend slowly, floating in the air, allowing the air current to carry them with it, letting it change their paths. They have chosen not to confront their destiny, choosing instead to enjoy every second of their short lives, their journey to the ground."

Great splashes of humor, yet very thoughtful!

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting narration, sort of like a tour guide through life!, June 16, 2008

This review is from: I Met a Greek Goddess in Nashville, Tennessee (Kindle Edition)
The author takes you around a tour of Nashville and then San Diego -- you feel like you are on a tour through life with a rather funny, philosophical and "weathered" tour guide who not only describes the places and life situations but also adds his touch of philosophy, humor and live experiences.

Being a Super minority (East Asian), I could relate with it much more easily.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wit & Philosophy in I Met a Greek Goddess in Nashville, April 22, 2011
This review is from: I Met a Greek Goddess in Nashville, Tennessee (Kindle Edition)
When the author behind the pseudonym Kalpanik S. first arrives on U.S. shores, his sense of being a stranger in a strange land is profound, but not in the least paralyzing. In spite of going through the cultural extremes of San Francisco, San Deigo, Silicon Valley, Seattle and -of all places- Nashville, Kalpanik S maintains his mental equilibrium and his sense of humor.

A compilation of emails and personal ruminations, "I Met a Greek Goddess in Nashville" is a blend of travelogue and philosophy mixed with a dose of Dave Barry-esque charm.

Nashville, take note: Kalpanik S. presents not only the major, better known aspects of the city to his readers, but adds interesting tidbits that entice prospective visitors as well.

Readers, Kalpanik S. is new at being a published author, and it shows. But, as he has obviously done since immigrating to the U.S., he's learning fast on that steep, upward curve. I predict every book he publishes will continue to improve and charm.

5.0 out of 5 stars witty and descriptive writing, highly recommended!, November 28, 2011
This review is from: I Met a Greek Goddess in Nashville, Tennessee (Kindle Edition)
I read this book, after one of my girlfriends recommended it to me, she loved it and said I would too. She was right! It is about a short but sweet two year "detour" through Nashville during the "Tech downturn". You get to read about Nashville, TN as seen from the eyes of an Asian-Indian-American-Californian-Washingtonian. The witty and descriptive writing style of the author made it hard for me to put down, Good photos too.

It really is a hilarious read, without being gross or offending. I found myself being caught off guard with the author's sense of humor. For example, the author compares Faith Hill to himself and points out the similarity between a COUnTRy muSiCIaN and a COmpUTeR SCIeNtist. Great book, well worth the read!

More About the Author

Kalpanik S. was born in India, or thereabouts, a long time ago. OK, so it wasn't really all that long ago, but it's not very recent either.

He came to the USA on a fellowship from the University of California in late eighties to do graduate level studies in Computer Science. After completing his studies, Kalpanik chose to stay back and serve the Software and Internet industries at West Coast's High Tech corridor - Silicon Valley, Seattle, and Southern California

He has been writing a journal about his "journey" through the US from the time he landed at the San Francisco Airport more than twenty years ago. Finally, some years ago, he finally gathered enough courage to get it published. Boy, are we glad he did!

Kalpanik (pronounced as KAAL-pah-nik) means "imaginary" in Hindi. Yes, it's a pen name. Author uses a pen name to allow him to separate his literary identity from his professional identity.
