Greek Philosophy,

This is certainly an incomplete book but, if you bought it as I did for a few Greek words or phrases, it's well worth it. It does give you a flavor for the Greek language too and you might notice trends in the speech. Organization doesn't seem to be its strong point so it's hard to find things in but, even if you find only a few things, it's done something. The book makes absolutely no pretension to teaching you the Greek language.

I've recently started to learn Greek using Rosetta Stone--which is excellent, by the way. But I thought I could use a companion to the immersion method--perhaps book to explain things about grammar. I tried a few textbooks, which proved to be less than useless. The Lonely Planet phrasebook, on the other hand is perfect for my needs. It's concise, and easy to use and to follow. Grammar guides are laid out as expected. The pronunciation guide is a nice balance between what the words really sound like in Greek, and what I can actually pronounce as a native English speaker. (Other pronunciation guides I've found have either been too simplistic, or leave me wondering how I could possibly make that particular sound.)
All in all, a great book. I now carry it around wherever I go--it fits easily into my purse. Highly recommended! I think I may buy a second copy, one for my purse, one to keep next to my computer.

I bought this for my boyfriend as a crash course in conversational Greek before we visited my family in Greece, and it was a great buy. Good content, even talks about sex and drinking (which let's face it, if you are a young traveler in Greece, these things are important!) Lonely Planet makes amazing books that are broken down well - dining, shopping, traveling. I would highly recommend this book to anyone going to Greece without any knowledge of the Greek language. That is, only if you care to try. Most people in Greece will know enough English so you can get by without it - but you'll make more friends with it.
