Book Description

July 12, 1994 0415043123 978-0415043120 Reprint
This book attempts to reinstate the works of Greek Tragedy as plays rather than just texts to be read. Taplin concentrates on three plays each by Sophocles, Aeschylus and Euripides to do this.

Editorial Reviews

Review

'A reissue of Greek Tragedy in Action couldn't be more timely: here is a book that championed new trends in the study of Greek drama, offering fresh readings of old texts and above all a dynamic sense of theatre. Oliver Taplin's viewpoint has proved to be both prophetic and influential.' - Professor Pat Easterling, University of Cambridge --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must-have for serious students of Greek drama, October 10, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Greek Tragedy in Action (Paperback)
It is impossible to study Greek tragedy without encountering this book in everyone's footnotes. Taplin's landmark study not only opened up new (very modern) ways of looking at his subject; it also is very readable!
