A comic book with everything.,

After many, many years of tumultuous on-again-off-again romance, Oliver Queen finally proposed to Dinah Lance and the coolest damn power couple in comics were headed for marriage. This TPB does a fantastic job of collecting the most important preceding issues surrounding this event and giving us the story in a neat little package. I had been looking for the 2007 Black Canary miniseries (my online comic vendor is out of issue 1) for some time. I ordered this book hoping to get caught up a bit on the happenings since my favorite Bird of Prey left the nest to make a new life for herself and her newly adopted (and adorable) daughter Sin, who was being trained as a future replacement for DC's deadliest martial-arts assassin, Lady Shiva, before Dinah met her while training in Asia and successfully rescued her. It turns out that "Road to the Altar" has the miniseries in it's entirety and much more.
After a brief intro from Green Arrow #75, the book begins with "Birds of Prey" issue #109 where Oracle recounts her first meeting with Green Arrow (back when she was Batgirl) and gives her former partner some tough love about Ollie's past indiscretions. It was a great issue with no plot or real action to speak of. 100% character development. The issue worked better in the BOP storyline because of a few in-jokes -such as Sin sharing her obsession with Pokemon to a humorously fascinated Big Barda- that are still funny here, but were funnier inside the framework of their original storyline. But seeing the tears in Barbara Gordon's eyes when Dinah asks her to be the maid of honor gets me either way. After that, we get the Black Canary miniseries which is all sorts of awesome. Issue one begins with Canary recounting her first JLA mission with her future beau and then gets into her new life with Sin. Yeah, turns out that pint-sized trained assassins don't much care for being bullied by other kids. Dinah's ex-husband shows up needy as always, but for once he has something to give back. A school for Sin where Dinah doesn't have to worry about an "incident". But somebody is pulling strings. An old enemy of The Green Arrow seeks to bolster his standing in the fractured League of Assassins and he knows just how to do it. The Black Canary issues are full of devastating ownage. Forget not that Dinah's martial-arts prowess is nearly the equal of Shiva herself. Add her powerful sonic Canary Cry to that arsenal and you've got one bada$z superheroine. My favorite, in fact. Issue two of the BC mini has what is probably my all-time favorite Wonder Woman illustration on the first page and a ninja attack on Sin's school with awesomely brutal results going for it. Issue three has one of the more heart-rending moments in comics and some more serious tail-kicking that carries over into issue four, which gives perfect resolution to a traumatizing story. The final chapter is the standalone "Black Canary: Wedding Planner" which is just a lighthearted preparation for Dinah and Ollie to take their vows. The cover is garbage, but the issue itself is fun for those who like to see their heroes' lives outside of crime-fighting every now and then. It's got a lot of humor and more importantly, it's got Wonder Woman, Vixen, and Canary trying on lingerie together. Admit it, boys: now you're sold. There is also this adorable anime-inspired full-page illustration with chibi versions of Canary and Arrow that I absolutely love. You're still thinking about the lingerie, aren't you? All right then, let me wrap this up. Gorgeous artwork with some really inspired facial illustrations and tons of eye-candy, a killer story starring one of the coolest and most underrated comic characters ever, and some bonus issues all wrapped up in one fun-to-read trade paperback recounting the path that two classic heroes took to the altar together. I call that a five star deal. As with BOP, there is a lot to love for both male and female comic fans. Both are well-served and both should check this TPB out.

Great tale of Black Canary and Green Arrow getting ready for their upcoming wedding while battling the League of Assassins.
There's plenty of story here so I didn't feel shortchanged. The writing is fluid and the art is lovely. I don't normally talk like this but Dinah is HOT. I picked this up without knowing much back story at all and I liked it just fine. I'd recommend this to any open minded reader and definitely to any GA/BC fan. If you like this than pick up Green Arrow/Black Canary VOL 01: The Wedding Album: The Wedding Album
