An enjoyable read as long as you are willing to overlook a few quirks,

This review is from: Green Arrow/Black Canary VOL 01: The Wedding Album (Hardcover)
First off, I was introduced to the Green Arrow/Black Canary relationship via the "JLA: Unlimited" animations, not through the "normal" route of reading the comics. Given that, I approached this book with a fairly open mind, since the GA/BC coupling on JLA is done with a very broad stroke.
I like the way the relationship is handled. In fact, the pledge that Dinah extracts from Ollie early on was a very pleasant surprise. Unfortunately, about two-thirds of the way through, it appears as though that pledge gets tossed out the window with no dialogue even briefly alluding to it. That's Quirk #1. Quirk #2 is the explanation for Ollie's strange behavior early in the book. Without revealing too much, let's just say that use of a shapeshifter doesn't make sense. Only a just-in-time-created clone could have pulled off what was originally planned. Quirk #3 (I could list a few more, but these are the major ones) happens when everyone is trying to locate what it was that harmed Connor, and no one brings up checking the satellite images taken of that area at that time. Maybe that will come up in the next volume but it really should have been brought up during the initial search. Even with these quirks, as I said, it's a very enjoyable read and I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the later volumes.

This review is from: Green Arrow/Black Canary VOL 01: The Wedding Album (Hardcover)
This book collects the wedding issue and first five of the latest Green Arrow series. It does feature the good writing from Judd Winick, amazing artwork from Amanda Conner, and does the characters justice. The only flaw is some of the crossovers. The main villian is this piece isn't well known and has a lot to do with the Final Crisis. Not sure I like that part.

Much better than your wedding album,

Even if you don't care about the relationship between Green Arrow and Black Canary this book is a lot of fun. Judd Winick does what I think he's good at and delivers a script that is at times funny, exciting, suspenseful, and warmhearted. I liked it a lot and I'll be picking up Family Business when it comes out.
If you love superhero comics you should love this. |
