If this is the book I read some years ago and was published in 1950, it is a review of the real Green Berets, the Royal Marine Commandos who earned the Green Beret as a battle honour as a result of their accomplishments in WW 2, especially at the raid on Ste. Nazaire with the Canadians and long before the US came into the war. Similarly, the Red Beret belongs to the Royal Parachute Regiment, and the Black Beret to the Royal Tank Regiment, all battle honours which no one has the right to usurp, John Wayne not withstanding.
