Green Berets, powered by the Myth II engine, is a squad-based tactical strategy game set in the treacherous jungles of Southeast Asia. Carefully plan your surgical strike, blast your way through enemy camps, or sneak deep behind enemy lines. Destroy radio towers, defend bases, or eliminate high-ranking officers. Your objectives are clear, but your path will be dark and dangerous.

A complete map editor includes everything you need to create your own levels, units, objects, multiplayer maps, and more. Tempt your enemies into a trap or attack them head-on in 10 missions through rice paddies, underground tunnels, rivers, and other detailed terrains. Secure landing zones with M-16 gunners, Huey helicopters, and medics, but beware of enemy snipers and mortar crews--more than 18 units in all.

Rescue POWs, locate downed pilots, sabotage enemy communications, and seek and destroy enemy supply dumps. Obliterate enemy bases with intense explosions, engage the enemy in blinding firefights, call in devastating air strikes, and more. Stalk through the dense jungles with M-60s, grenade launchers, med kits, and explosive charges.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wanted a mission, and for my sins they gave me one..., September 20, 2001
By
This review is from: Green Berets (CD-ROM)
This game is great! Graphics are wonderful and set the mood perfectly. I've renamed my squad members as myself and my buddies and for the past week I've been transported to 1960's Viet-Nam nightly. I find Green Berets much more interesting than the somewhat stale dwarves and wizards world of Myth II. Graphics are better as well. The scenarios are tough even set on Timid and I'd hate to see what they'd be like on the Legendary level! This game really gives you the feel of small unit jungle combat! You'll have the time of your life sneaking your men from tree to tree trying to get close enough to plant the charges or zigzagging to avoid incoming mortar rounds. You can even save films of your missions and replay them. You can speed these up or slow them down for Peckinpah-style action. If you're tired of fantasy battles, go for this one!

Very few games use a Viet Nam war theme. As a Viet Nam infantry vet I look hard for games from my war experience. I am a fan of Myth so the engine and game play were familure to me. Although this is not an outstanding game it was very playable and just plain fun. On the normal level it was somewhat challenging and with saves beatable. Some of the weapons were enjoyable and took some skill to master. The M79 granade launcher (Blooper)was one. The hand grandes were fun as well. The enemy morters were deadly. I would reccommend it to those who enjoyed the Myth experience but want to play a Viet Nam War adventure. The major game magizines rated it lower then this. I truly think that the reviewers had no Viet Nam War refrence to get that extra emotional kick a vet would have when playing it. This may be a good gift for a vet who is also a gamer.
Dareing Bravo 6 Kilo this is LP 1. I'v got movment to my front. I'm blowing a claymore! LP 1 out.

5.0 out of 5 stars The British love it!, August 14, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Green Berets (CD-ROM)
I must admit that I simply love war games. From playing a lone soldier to commanding entire armies, I just love to play war games. I was personally a bit disappointed with Hidden & Dangerous, one of Talonsoft's previous titles as I found the controls and movement to be a bit dodgy.

However, this game really is great. It has been written with the help of experts from the online Myth community to really make the game look and feel brilliant. If you loved Myth you will love this just as much. You can tell that the game uses the Myth II engine as it looks and feels very similar.

The only difficulty I can see is that it would take a lot of practice for new players to get used to the camera system but veterans of the Myth games should be able to jump write in.

In my opinion it is a great laugh, especially at this price.
