Avoid Nutricity,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Green & Black's Organic Chocolate Bar, Dark 70% Cocoa, 3.5-Ounce Bars (Pack of 10) (Grocery)
Be careful what supplier you select. It shouldn't be Nutricity. From Amazon, the G&B bars (made in Canada) arrive promptly; I've ordered them several times and will again. My first (and last) order from Nutricity, however, arrived a month after the order had been placed, and then only after an inquiry to the seller. The bars were dry, stale and hard, the color of cocoa powder rather than chocolate bars. Although the bars still had 10 months to go before expiration of the sell-by date on the wrappers, they were a disgrace to the good name of G&B. It may be that they had been stored improperly, or that the single paper wrapper used in the Italian plant (the Canadian maker uses an inner foil wrap) allowed too much air to get to the bars. I'll grind them for hot chocolate, but they are unsuitable for eating directly and very similar in quality to the bars one sometimes finds at mass-market outlets that resell overstock from other retailers.

No GMO ingredients in G&B bars,
This review is from: Green & Black's Organic Chocolate Bar, Dark 70% Cocoa, 3.5-Ounce Bars (Pack of 10) (Grocery)
It's interesting to read that some reviewers are saying the bars contain GMO ingredients.
The information is erroneous. Green & Black's does not use GMO soy lecithin or any other GMO ingredient. This is taken directly from their website: Are your products GM-free? Yes - as all of our products are certified by the Soil Association, this ensures no genetically modified (GM) ingredients are used in their production. Just FYI, the Soil Association is the UK equivalent of the NOP here in the US, the organic certification body. They're very strict.

It can't be vegan and contain MILK. I've been a vegetarian for years and am now trying to become more vegan. I LOVE dark chocolate but this is false advertising. It is not vegan if there is milk in it!!

while not a connoseur of dark chocolate selections i do favour them over milk chocolates. i haven't taken any steps to verify the ingredients of this product, i can only attest that the order i received from green & black in early 2011 is utterly tasteful, smooth, rich, creamy and overall so palatable and toothsome that i cannot recommend it unless you wish to commit to consuming a lot of chocolate. it has the right, minimal amount of sweetness to make another piece seem like a very good idea. it's worth repeating that this chocolate is smooth. dark chocolate afficionados here very satisfied, thank you.

Hello all,
I hate writing negative reviews...this really isn't a comment about the chocolate itself because I haven't tried it, but I did go to the G&B web site to check out the ingredients. According to the official site, all of their dark chocolate bars contain whole milk powder. :( That was confirmed by an email sent by a customer service representative from Cadbury, even though I submitted the request through the G&B site. Hmmm. Well, it's not vegan, folks. I think only the cocoa powder is... Good chocolate hunting, and bon appetit!

I've been eating dark chocolate since Hershey came out with Special Dark in the 70's. I discovered Dove, Ghirardelli, and more recently Scharffen-Berger, etc. A few years ago I tried this stuff and, honestly, I haven't looked back. It has fantastic flavor and, most importantly, it has the perfect melting point - NO waxiness - just starts melting and releasing complex flavor the moment you put it in your mouth. Not too sweet, not too bitter. I've had re-trials of some big-name dark chocolates in recent years (recalling swooning over them in the past), but continue to go back to Green & Black. Haven't tried the 85% but will soon.
BTW, WalMart is selling these for 2.97 a bar, and occasionally Walgreen's will run them @ 2 for $5 - last time, I stocked up!

Best Organic Chocolate,

I agree with the other posters that this is one of the best, if not THE best, organic chocolate on the market. intense and rich flavor, it easily melts in your mouth and there is little guilt because of the benefits of organic and dark chocolate. I like to savor each bite for its sweetness and richness and I hope you try it!

I love milk chocolate and don't like dark cholocate. My husband is the opposite, so I always buy him the dark stuff and it's safe for him, haha! Until I happened to try this one. It's awesome!

best dark chocolate, and low caffeine,
This review is from: Green & Black's Organic Chocolate Bar, Dark 70% Cocoa, 3.5-Ounce Bars (Pack of 10) (Grocery)
This is by far my favorite dark chocolate, and has become a regular item for me to get through my workday. I also enjoy their 85% dark bar sometimes, but the 70% is the best all-around bar. I don't find it bitter at all, unlike other common non-organic name-brand chocolates, which are often bitter even though they have far less cocoa content. They also have a lot more sugar, and yet this low sugar bar is still less bitter.
The other thing to note is that the caffeine content of Green & Black's dark chocolate is significantly less than the name brand non-organic ones -- 6mg per 40g serving, as opposed to 30+mg. This is due to the other chocolates grinding up the whole bean including the shell instead of removing the nibs from the casing first, presumably to cut costs. I'm guessing the shell is also what is adding to the bitterness of other chocolates. Now I just need to find a way to stock up on cases of these at a discount price.

If you're looking for a tasty, silky dark chocolate, this one is a treat. Nutritionists recommend having an ounce of 70% or above dark cocoa per day. This has a rich, silky taste and texture. Not too bitter and not too sweet. I'm happy with 3 squares of it which is about 60 calories. I picked mine up locally at the health food store in town and a single bar was over $4.00 to give you a price comparison. My son was able to find them at Walmart but I don't like driving that far and would order in bulk to keep in the house. These are tasty.
