Audiobook users often "fast-forward" past the introductory material that many producers include, such as a reading of the descriptive blurb from the printed book's jacket. Chivers productions always launch right into the story, and this practice is satisfactory most of the time. However, with this recording it is not, and furthermore, the copy on the case is not very helpful. This is the second book in the author's critically acclaimed trilogy set in the Welsh marshes in the 13th century, but the listener won't know that without prior knowledge and may have difficulty putting the story into context. Richard Mitchley, a professional actor, reads crisply, almost too quickly, with little differentiation among male and female characters.
