From Library Journal
For Ponsot, Earth's "display of structure" is the foundation of poetic meaning: "Our words embody our purposes." Her poems reflect on origins and death, ideas (love, beauty, time) and nature's cycles. Author of several volumes of poetry ( Admit Impediment, LJ 12/1/81), translator of innumerable books, and mother of seven children, she is fired by a poetic inspiration, revealed through speculative style, that defies biological age. Accepting age ("Winter is coming, giant double-face, old friend"), she writes sensual poems about girlhood, passion, and springtime. Finally, Ponsot's poetry, like all poetry, seeks freedom to be itself: "We are what our imagination frees." Frank Allen, Allentown Coll., Center Valley, Pa.
