5.0 out of 5 stars They made a masterpiece
This is a really detailed inside look at how the album was made .

it's been out in the UK for ages . There's loads of footage of Green day and the bands that influnced them .I'd never seen Green Day playing Ramones songs before , brilliant .

3.0 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected
It's my fault, I'm sure, but I thought I was ordering a DVD with real concert footage and then people talking about what they saw. What I got was 5-15 seconds of concert footage of Greenday, footage of other bands playing old stuff, and a bunch of Brits talking about why they did or didn't like that part of the CD for minutes on end. It was very hard to even pay...

It was very hard to even pay attention to the concert footage because of the way the DVD is edited (multi-screens showing at the same time). For me, I felt this was a waste of my money, but that's me.

Some of the good parts were seeing some rare footage of The Ramones and then guitar lessons, but other then that felt like I got ripped off on this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars You are really looking for "Bullet In A Bible" not this waste, December 26, 2005
This review is from: Green Day: Critical Review - American Idiot (DVD)
Misleading DVD. Should not even be sold by Amazon. If you want the Green Day concert DVD, buy "Bullet In A Bible".

This DVD is basically a DVD of Critics talking about the band with minimal concert footage. A waste of time and money. Bad gift for a Green Day fan.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid this like the plague, January 5, 2006
This review is from: Green Day: Critical Review - American Idiot (DVD)
I thought a "critical review" of American Idiot would involve music critics and historians discussing the rock opera genre and where AI fits into it, the history of political protest in punk, the development of AI from Green Day's earlier work and how their musical influences are reflected or departed from in this album, etc. I got none of that from this DVD. It's five or six random people saying banal or idiotic things about the album. None of them seems more than vaguely aware that AI even tells a story, much less has anything to say about the characters or the narrative structure. They helpfully inform us that AI is "political". They identify Green Day's influences as the Ramones and the Buzzcocks (and that's it, apparently). Perhaps more to the point, half the performance footage of the band is from MTV's Storytellers and the rest is from random German and Italian MTV performances. There's nothing special about the footage and no original interviews. In sum: NO ONE should bother with this. Buy Bullet in a Bible. Or just set $15 on fire.

1.0 out of 5 stars The biggest waste of money, December 22, 2005

If you are a Green Day fan, no... even half a Green Day fan. This poorly made, uninteresting DVD offers you no additional information or insight into Green Day or the albulm. Every piece of information can be extracted from Green Day web sites and interviews. It was pointless and the worst output of money I have ever done. I believe it is a concoction of some Brits who wanted to cash in on Green Day's fame.

1.0 out of 5 stars Leave American Idiot to American Idiots!!, January 5, 2006
This review is from: Green Day: Critical Review - American Idiot (DVD)
Ok dvd, a lot of performance footage. The critical review howerever leaves a lot to be desired. Some of the critics made sense, but I disagreed with what some of them had to say about American Idiot, which is one of my favorite albums of all time. And although I have nothing against the English, I feel very strongly that the review of an album about what it's like to grow up in America, should be left up to people who actally grew up in America.

This was just terrible. I couldn't even sit through the whole boring thing. I thought these critics would have been writers I might have at least seen the names of in some of the rock rags that might have something interesting to say about where Green Day stand in the rock legend hall. Even if I hadn't completely agreed I could at least see some point of view. This was a collection of pointless rambling. I can't believe I was duped into paying for such crap.

1.0 out of 5 stars Rip off of Story Tellers, May 26, 2007
By
This review is from: Green Day: Critical Review - American Idiot (DVD)
The footage they show of Green Day in this video was all from their Story Tellers show where they played the songs from American Idiot and answered questions from the crowd. What's worse is that this dvd seems to be a review of that show which was already a review with comments from Green Day themselves. Total waste of time and money. I am very easy to please but this is just painful.

This review is from: Green Day: Critical Review - American Idiot (DVD)
I have got ALL g d concert dvds, so it thoguht it was kinda cool to hear more about the way the album was put together. Okay, i didnt always agree with the "critics" and experts, but made for a few heated discussions with the rest of boyz! It does what is says on the sleeve - it is a review, and is one of the best docs about g d.
