Good Music and Lou Taylor Pucci Video, July 25, 2008
This review is from: Green Day: Jesus in Suburbia (DVD)
Green Day's "Jesus of Suburbia" DVD provides two performances of the nine-minute song. Both sound tracks sound great. The composition is a suite tracking the narrative poem's protagonist who gets fed up with his cheating girlfriend and his drunken mother, despairs, packs his bags, and drives away.
The first performance is a music video by director Samuel Bayer, starring Lou Taylor Pucci as Jimmy, the protagonist. His girlfriend is played by Kelli Garner, and the mother is played by Deborah Kara Unger.
The music video has the usual rapid-cut sex and drugs. The only material skin scenes are by Jimmy. The DVD I bought did have a parental warning on the case.
The video portion was originally a twelve-minute creation with spoken dialogue between the main characters. The music video eliminates the dialogue, keeps the scenes as pantomime, re-arranges the order of scenes, and inconspicuously compresses the film. The original video is posted on the internet.
The second performance is live, showing the band at work.
The third segment of the DVD is a one-minute trailer to "Bullet in a Bible", done in a music video, rapid-cut style.
Since the total time on the DVD is less than 20 minutes, it would have been nice to have also had the full, 12-minute video included.
There was no text of the lyrics included, but one can find it on the web.
Although this is not a fully-loaded value, the music and Lou Taylor Pucci make the "Jesus of Suburbia" DVD a worthwhile pleasure.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Green Day: Jesus in Suburbia (DVD)
Awesome DVD! Jesus of Suburbia is a very explicit video though, and it is unknown why there is no parental advisory label. As bonus features, the dvd includes the live video for the song, and the Bullet in a Bible Trailer! Definetley worth your money!
