5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun playing with rewarding bonus videos

This is a review for the solo "career mode" only. Haven't touched the XBOX live and multiplayer yet--I will update my review once I do that. I am also a big Green Day fan so that also affects my review.

3.0 out of 5 stars Awesome music, but a rather lackluster follow-up to The Beatles
It feels like Harmonix pulled out their big guns prematurely with their plastic instrument take on the fab four in last year's The Beatles: Rock Band. It's only arguable by logical technicality that the subjects of said rhythm game are the most well-known and definitive music group in the last hundred years. And the developers went all out, going so far as to recreate the...

Review:
I have REALLY been enjoying this game!!! I played through the whole main game in two days (which is HIGHLY unusual for me... I rarely ever complete a game no matter how much I enjoy it) and am now working on unlocking all of the bonus content.

High points:
* Great variety of songs from Insomniac - 21st Century Breakdown albums (3 partial albums, 3 full albums)
* Great variety of slow/fast/punk/pop-punk songs
* Great behind the scenes videos, photos, and concert performances -- rewarding and fun to complete the challenges
* I have only played guitar so far, (completed on hard and started on expert) but the parts have been a lot of fun and have a nice variety in song styles and playing styles
* Great replay value. As with all other Rock Band games, with 4 instruments to play, 3 part vocal harmonies, and 4 difficulty levels to choose from, there is plenty to do!

Low points:
* Repetitive stage-entrance videos (it appears to be one video for each venue that is shown at varying angles. It would have been nice to put forth the small effort to create a couple more varieties.
* Only 3 venues (and thus 3 sets of outfits for the bands)
* A little on the short side (would have loved more songs for the earlier days) in terms of the initial run-through

All in all, Green Day: Rock Band is very entertaining and a must-have for Green Day fans despite the average visual appearance. If you like Green Day at all, this is a must-have for your Rock Band collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceeded Expectations, October 5, 2010

I was hesitant in getting this for some reason but I'm really glad I did. It brings back memories with some classic 90's alternative/punk nostalgia.

It has the feel of a live concert even though you are playing to the studio albums. The crowd chimes in during certain choruses of the popular songs.

I have pretty much all of the Rock Band/Guitar Hero games and I usually just play the guitar and drums but this is the first game that I've actually wanted to sing along with. However, I don't like the fact that they silenced the curse words in the lyrics. There are also some fun and interesting bass lines in this game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Congrats Harmonix, GDRB Very Complete Game, May 2, 2011

This review is from: Green Day: Rock Band (Video Game)
Coming from a person who owns Rock Band, Rock Band 2, Beatles Rock Band, Lego Rock Band, Green Day Rock Band, and Rock Band 3, I would say Green Day Rock Band is a very solid, highly entertaining effort by Harmonix at another band-specific release. If you appreciate the music of Green Day, this game is a no-brainer. If you enjoy music games in general, you will have a lot of fun with this game. All told, a great set list. The first time I played through it I noticed more than a few songs where I was like, "This a Green Day song? I never knew that, I love this song!" Green Day Rock Band allows guitar, bass, drums, vocals, including solo vocals, like all other Rock Band games, and an additional option of harmonies. For the harmonies option, you can use the microphones provided with the Lips game, if you already have them. Comparing apples to apples, Harmonix made some much needed improvements with their Green Day release over their Beatles release. Both band-specific games have a solid set list but the achievements for Green Day are much more attainable than in Beatles. By playing fairly well, expect to earn between 600 and 700 gamerscore points somewhat easily. Unlike Beatles Rockband, you are not required to 100% most of the songs on expert difficulty to earn some achievements. In my mind, the relative attainability of the achievements only serves to increase the fun factor of this game, where it can played for pleasure with your friends without the pressure of perfection. One last note, I would encourage you to buy this game new from Amazon.com so the code on the back of the instruction manual will be intact, allowing you to import your Green Day songs into Rock Band 3.

I'm a Green Day fan and I love this game. I don't like that you have to spend an additional $9.99 to transfer the songs to the regular Rock Band game. I am also disappointed that there are no songs from Kerplunk. But all-in-all... I love it. Seems a little easier than regular Rock Band 2 because I have already gold-starred all of the songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars So much fun!!, June 8, 2010

I picked this up at midnight on release day and played for hours! It is so much fun and a must for any Green Day fan. It features all the songs from Dookie, American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown and a number of other songs from their other releases. You can do a career mode where you start out playing smaller venues and the bands earlier songs - As you progress you play more recent songs and play larger and larger venues. The game play is spot on with the other Rock Band releases and the graphics are great. I am a huge Green Day fan and this is a video game dream come true! If you like Green Day and want to play their songs in Rock Band, you need to buy this game! It is a ton of fun!!

I have had at least 20 hours of fun with this game over the last two months. All GD fans should be satisfied, as it covers songs from the early albums all the way through 21st Century Breakdown. It was awesome being able to unlock the full albums for both this and American Idiot. This is a great deal... buy it NOW.

I always have been and always will be a Green Day fan, however this game didn't not live up to the expectations set up by Rock Band after the Beatles Rock Band had been released previously. This particular game seems to almost be rushed together only so that it would be put out before the Music gaming craze wears off, but what time can not equal to is quality. That being said, the set list was amazing. Naturally having Dookie be my favorite album and American Idiot be my 2nd, all the popular songs are. There are also some Nimrod, Insomniac, and Warning songs thrown in for the hardcore fans. Although there may have been too many songs off of 21st Century Breakdown, instead of taking more of their "International Superhits", the set list is still strong. The game could have improved in many areas such as more venues, music videos, or maybe even some DLC character costumes or guitars but the game is none the less good.

Not really a full rock band product, more like an expansion pack. Glad I didn't pay full retail for it but now that its priced under $20 it's worth it.

This review is from: Green Day: Rock Band (Video Game)
It's a ton of fun, and fun to do career mode and go from early to recent times.

Unfortunatly the early stuff isn't as much fun because power chord mashing is more fun on a real guitar than on a RB guitar. IMO guitar gets more fun from american idiot on. Drums are definetly tough, and my own goal is to get them all done on expert and be as good as tre...

I would've liked to see some songs from kerpluk or smoothed out, but I imagine it has something to do with ownership rights as they were on lookout.

I loved it! It has lots of Green Day Songs, and it allowed me to export them to Rock Band 2 to play so that I do not have to change discs! The animation is great, and overall the product was more than satisfying. I definitely got my money's worth out of this product.
