Challenging... but rewarding, February 15, 2010
This review is from: The Green Diet (Hardcover)
As a teenage boy it is a serious challenge to try and live by the Green Diet but after seriously reading the book it becomes clear that the benefits well outweigh the costs. What one gives up in some favorite foods will be promptly rewarded with increased energy and productivity as well as general health and quality of life.

Life Changing, February 16, 2010
This review is from: The Green Diet (Hardcover)
Only one out a hundred books that I read makes any impact on my life. This one did. It includes the best explanation of how sugar works in our bodies that I have ever read. I have been transitioning to a vegetarian life style because of this book even though I had read several others espousing that same change. This book made it seem doable. I have made a goal to make each recipe, despite the fact that I have thousands of recipes already. The numbered steps are extremely easy to follow. My favorite (so far) is the "No Fail, No Knead" bread. The added commentary from a qualified physician provide an extremely valuable bonus to the book. It is tastefully laid out and printed on quality paper with beautiful photography. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to everyone who wants healthier and more tasteful food.

well-researched and clear guidelines for healthy eating plus recipes and tips, January 27, 2010
This review is from: The Green Diet (Hardcover)
Mary Jolley outlines a long-term, sustainable way of eating for good health based on documented research. No fads or gimmicks. No false promises that you can eat what you want without realizing the consequences. In a concise way, she lists the things to eliminate or minimize and why. Recognizing that for most of us a switch to a wholesome plant-only diet would be daunting, she offers real-life suggestions for incremental improvements. Ms. Jolley includes a variety of tasty recipes that show how one can eat well. The nutrition charts at the back are calculated on per 100 calorie basis instead of a volume amount. This shows the real nutritional value by calorie so it is easier to see how to get more nutrition for fewer calories. The book helped me realize that much of our personal health may be influenced by things we can control by using solid information, advance planning and self-direction. I also appreciate the helpful medical tips from Dr. Sarah Beesley.
I have visited Ms. Jolley's website, [...] and found additional recipes and tips.
Suggestions for a future work would include tips and recipes for entertaining, for children's parties and school treats, and for holiday traditions.

Practical and Encouraging Book, December 19, 2009
This review is from: The Green Diet (Hardcover)
This book is a great read for anyone trying to find the way to a healthier lifestyle. The book is also a valuable resource for anyone looking for practical help and support to live that healthier lifestyle. The book not only explains why living a more natural food lifestyle is a better course than the traditional options most of us embrace now but the book also provides real world ways to make living the diet easier, fun and achievable. I found the many ideas contained in the receipes of how to combine a standard staple of wholesome fruits and veggies into unique and exciting ways to create a variety of food options to be the most helpful.
This is an easy and enjoyable read without all of the guilt. I find it to be more of a working resource than just a one-time read.
Anyone interested in living a healthier and more full life could benefit from this book.
