4.0 out of 5 stars Good fantasy series for young readers! November 6, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
THE GREEN DOOR and the upcoming Secret Doorway Tales would probably have the broadest appeal to young readers who like the fantasy genre. The stories are imaginative and well-written, although a bit of editing is needed. In this opening story, a young girl named Anne finds her way through a magical portal into another world. She meets many fantasy creatures, some of them friends and some of them foes. She confronts the evil Queen of Winter who seems intent on the destruction of the fantasy world. Anne discovers that the damage the queen inflicts will also carry over into the real world. Anne, with the help of her fantasy friends, tries to foil the evil queen.

The story doesn't feel entirely original as it seems to be a mishmash of Alice in Wonderland, the Chronicles of Narnia, and Catherine Cooper's The Golden Acorn. Nevertheless, I think that young readers would really enjoy the Secret Doorway Tales. I also appreciate the fact that the author incorporates a message about saving the environment and nature in her stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Step Through The Green Door! May 9, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I liked this book! It has enjoyable characters in daring situations inside a colorful fantasy world. And it follows a surprisingly long literary tradition that includes:

1.) The Green Door, by O. Henry
2.) The Door in the Wall, by HG Wells
3.) The Lost Room, by FitzJames O'Brien
4.) The Green Door, a 1956 song by Jim Lowe.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very derivative April 13, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As at least one other reviewer has noted, this book is highly derivative of some classics of children's literature. The main character is a bit of a goody-goody and, to my chagrin, I found myself wishing several times that something terrible would happen to her in the course of her adventures (this probably says much more about me than it does about the author). Children may enjoy, but I found it by-the-numbers.
