Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 3–6—This cookbook goes far beyond what one might expect. Many children have probably made green eggs and ham using copious amounts of green food coloring, but here, the ham is green thanks to a coating made from cilantro and tomatillos, and the eggs' usually yellow yolks are covered by a mound of guacamole. Many other recipes are equally creative; the Pink Yink Ink Drink is yummy, healthy, and sure to be a hit. While some of the connections to the Dr. Seuss books are a bit of a stretch, all include quotes that clarify their ties to specific stories. As with many cookbooks that are written to fit a predetermined theme, there is a wide range in both the difficulty and complexity of the recipes. Adult assistance will be needed for many of them, and several will send parents to the store for ingredients (shallots, rock shrimp, clams). However, the dishes' playful names and inventive presentations will have children trying new foods and adults enjoying the flavorful combinations. A great addition to the world of book-themed cookbooks.—Genevieve Gallagher, Murray Elementary School, Charlottesville, VA

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected!, January 9, 2007

I was afraid this book would be a cheap sort of merchandising. But, the recipes are fun adaptations you would eat! Their presentation is probably better than mine, but you'll have that...

Each recipe page has an excerpt from the book that inspired the recipe, and there are plenty of tie-ins, especially if you were having a Dr. Seuss Party, this would be a great book!

Do you like Green Eggs and Ham?!?

Yes - I like them Sam-I-am!!! I would like them here or there - I would like them anywhere!!!

Yes - I like the Glunker Stew - and I like the Blueberry Bumplings too!!!

Yes - I like the Pink Yink Ink Drink - I even like the Biggel-Balls - I think!?!

I like Brown and Black's Snack - and the Who-Roast-Beast - and the Ape Cakes Grape Cakes to say the least!!!

I like it all - oh where to stop - well, maybe the Schlopp with a Cherry on Top!!!

It's all so good - oh, Sam-I-am - but the best is still the Green Eggs and Ham!!!

This review is from: Green Eggs and Ham Cookbook (Spiral-bound)
Cookbook author Georgeanne Brennan teams up with Frankie Frankeny to provide a Seuss cookbook of fun and wild food references. Here are some forty recipes for breakfast, lunch, snakes and desserts which offers Corn-Off-the-Cobsk, Nice Lime Ice, and more. Some are easy, some more complicated: all will capture the interest and imagination of kids in grades 2-6.
