Green Eyed Soul marks a stark departure from Lari's previous work. As far away from country as it is close to, literally, soul, Lari, like her contemporary Shelby Lynne, doesn't shy away from digging beneath the placid surface into the dark underbelly of life within the insular communities of the deep South. Drawing heavily on her formative influences, Lari wrote and produced the album herself; she blends classic soul/R&B sensibilities with modern technology to tackle subjects such as love and the loss of innocence, conjuring up heady images of languorous, sultry Southern nights. In setting out to make music with no higher ambition than to please herself, Green Eyed Soul is an album whose hybrid of experience, influences and emotions cuts across accepted genres and speaks directly to the heart.

As a long time fan of Lari White's music, I was pleasantly surprised when I heard the first track from this cd. I think it's great. I enjoyed every song. I was glad to see a female country singer step out and do something R&B-ish rather than a more pop sound. I am a country music fan but I also love bluesy soul/R&B stuff. Get the CD, grab a glass of your favorite beverage, light some candles and soak in a bubble bath while you "soak in" Green Eyed Soul. Ummmmm

This CD from Lari is a departure from her country music works -- although her song "Lead Me Not into Temptation (I can find it by myself)" from an earlier album hints at what is on this one. It's filled with songs of powerful love and desire. The vocals reflect her range and her musical style -- she's singing what she loves. It's a good groove, get the wine and candles out, put the kids to bed, find your sweetie kind of album. I highly recommend it.

I think she has a fine voice but I don't like the synthy, 80s style of this CD. I liked the more country stuff and this soul album is well, overproduced. Lari White is a talented singer/songwriter and I purchased Lead Me Not in both cassette and Cd.
