Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

The green fluorescent Protein (GFP) has initiated a revolution in molecular cell biology by establishing a general approach for visualizing nearly any protein of interest in any cell, tissue or species. Researchers working at all levels of biology, such as single molecule dynamics, protein trafficking within cells, organelle dynamics and cell and tissue behaviors during development, have made important use of GFP.
This volume is a practical guide to working with GFP and contains discussions of GFP biophysics and GFP mutants, design of GFP fusion proteins and expression systems, and detailed protocols for introducing and visualizing GFP in living cells. Methods for quantitative imaging, data analysis and presentation are detailed by a select group of researchers who have made some of the key contributions to bio-fluorescent imaging technologies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction to GFP, November 28, 1999

This review is from: Green Fluorescent Proteins, Volume 58 (Methods in Cell Biology, Volume 58) (Paperback)
This book is really interesting to read, it covers many types of applications of GFP, and is also packed with nice pictures that make it fun to read. Lots of helpful hints too. Highly recommended to anyone who is thinking of using GFP. This book would be useful both to those just starting to use GFP as well as experienced researchers looking to see what others have tried.

First Sentence:
Green bioluminescence has been known as a feature of marine coelenterates for many years, but only in 1971 with the discovery by Morin and Hastings (1971a) did it become known that the green color derives from an intrinsically green fluorescent protein. Read the first page
