5.0 out of 5 stars Kyle Rayner is cool, man!
I put off reading Kyle Rayner's run for a long time. For one, it was out of print. Two, I wasn't sure if I'd really like him or not. But he's a fantastic character. Kyle, Wally West, & Dick Grayson are three of my favorite DC characters. Anyways, this graphic novel was a great read, I enjoyed every minute of it. It's pretty short, though. 1.0 out of 5 stars Green Lantern Volume 3
Overall, Green Lantern Volume 3 was a poor representation of the Green Lantern franchise. Green Lantern Volume 4 with Hal Jordan back has never been better as evidenced by the current sales. Green Lantern is currently more popular than any single Superman or Batman title for a reason.

Instead of this, any part of Volume 4 should be read instead. I highly...

5.0 out of 5 stars Kyle Rayner is cool, man!, June 23, 2011

I put off reading Kyle Rayner's run for a long time. For one, it was out of print. Two, I wasn't sure if I'd really like him or not. But he's a fantastic character. Kyle, Wally West, & Dick Grayson are three of my favorite DC characters. Anyways, this graphic novel was a great read, I enjoyed every minute of it. It's pretty short, though. Took me about an hour straight of reading it to finish it. Their's some cool guest apparences (Alan Scott & Clark Kent). It's a pretty emotional story as well. Kyle reminds me of Peter Parker, just a little bit. Which is great. I'd love to see Kyle on the big screen someday. I'm hopeful. He's got a great story. This is coming from a huge Hal Jordan fan (yet another reason I put off reading this), I think I like Kyle just a little more than Hal now. Both are quite cool.

I'd recommend reading this graphic novel if you're interested in Kyle.

5.0 out of 5 stars New writer, new hero... the birth of a new legend, October 19, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Green Lantern: A New Dawn (Paperback)
In JLA, the Sandman told Green Lantern Kyle Rayner that he is destined to become the greatest of any to weild the emerald power ring. Looking back on the events of A NEW DAWN, you wouldn't think it would ever be possible. After receiving the last power ring (only because he was there at the time), Kyle was brash, arrogant, cocky and overconfident... and I dare anyone out there to deny they wouldn't be the same with the most powerful weapon in the universe on their finger. Ron Marz started his finest work right here - the creation not of a comic book character, but of a real human being who exists in the crazy, intense, fantastical world of the DC Universe. From the humour of Kyle's day at the beach, to the shock that awaits him inside his girlfriend's apartment (truly THE most distrubing, horrifying and at once most powerful moment in recent comics history), we are taken along with Kyle as he learns what it means to be a hero. Outstanding.

4.0 out of 5 stars There's a new boy in town - yay!!!, October 2, 2001

While many people still dwell over the fact that Hal Jordan is no longer with us as the GREEN LANTERN (going nuts and killing all other GL's around then adopting a GOD-like attitude will do that to you), it seems that an equal amount if not more have accepted and ended up loving KYLE RAYNER as the newly appointed GL. This story will take you back to the early days of KYLE, coming to grips with his new destiny. See what made him the hero he is today - recommended reading!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Rayner Proves a Success, November 18, 2002
This review is from: Green Lantern: A New Dawn (Paperback)
For me Hal Jordan will always be the ultimate Green Lantern, but Rayner fills his shoes nicely. Ron Marz follows his brilliant Emerald Twilight story with some surprisingly strong plots. This collection introduces us to Raynor's world. He is a struggling artist with a wild imagination, which is perfect for the character of Green Lanter. Marz also gives artist Daryl Bank some difficult pieces to draw. Instead of using simple baseball bats like Jordan was prone to doing, Raynor conjures up gladiators, robots nad other more imaginative creations through his power ring.

5.0 out of 5 stars A New Dawn shows Kyle Rayner's first step into heroism., July 10, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Green Lantern: A New Dawn (Paperback)
This is one of the most dramatic & amusing Green Lantern stories to date...proved that writer Ron Marz was not going to be silly with his character like many were with Hal in stories such as "Power Rings For Sale" or "The Menace of the Giant Puppet". I enjoyed Kyle's devolpment with the ring in issue two of the paperback. Finally, the conversation with Alan Scott was something that will help Kyle greatly in the future. That is why I rate this story a five.

4.0 out of 5 stars good book, August 12, 1999

as the prologe to the next green lantern, it contains the best picture that defines kyle's personality (the picture where kyle steps on his first of many defeated opponents and raises his arms over his head to get his picture taken for the front page of the paper). the book is best paired with "baptism by fire". they both show what it takes to learn how to use the ring and become a hero.

Hal Jordan was a classic, but he was getting old. The series needed a fresh start and this did it. Excellent story.

1.0 out of 5 stars Green Lantern Volume 3, March 12, 2010

Overall, Green Lantern Volume 3 was a poor representation of the Green Lantern franchise. Green Lantern Volume 4 with Hal Jordan back has never been better as evidenced by the current sales. Green Lantern is currently more popular than any single Superman or Batman title for a reason.

Instead of this, any part of Volume 4 should be read instead. I highly recommend the Sinestro Corps War Volumes 1 and 2 or Rage of the Red Lanterns.

For those of you that still really love Rayner, Green Lantern Corps Volume 2 is a good read. The writers handle his character much better now than they did in the past and his costume isn't as ugly as it was originally.

1.0 out of 5 stars Yawn, October 14, 1999
This review is from: Green Lantern: A New Dawn (Paperback)
Anyone who thought that the character of Hal Jordan was gettingstale need look no further than this book to find out that there areindeed worse things. Hal Jordan's character maintained a loyal fan base for thirty years, but Kyle Rayner's character gets old, stale, and boring after the first panel. Who cares about this Gen X slacker who had a power ring dropped into his lap without doing anything to earn it? I certainly don't.
