A transitional chapter for a controversial character, November 30, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Green Lantern: New Journey, Old Path (Paperback)
This collect's Judd Winnick's first couple of story-arcs as the first post-Marz writer on "Green Lantern". As a previous reviewer noted, Winnick immediately sets about remedying the lack of character growth and development for which the Marz run was widely criticized. Kyle is much more substantial and well-rounded in Winnick's hands, a most welcome improvement. On the negative side, this is Winnick's first superhero work, and it shows; the pace, structure, and overall execution are awkward, giving the narrative an uneven feel. That having been said, I'll mention that Winnick's work on the title since has dramatically improved; he seemed to really hit his stride a few issues after those collected here. Look for Winnick's next Green Lantern collection to be a five-star winner. As for the present one, I'll still recommend it as a good transitional intro to a highly promising new era for Green Lantern.

I've read better, but not many, February 21, 2006
This review is from: Green Lantern: New Journey, Old Path (Paperback)
Basic storyline is decent. Part one has the man hunters after Kyle and the last lantern ring and with some cool pictures it looks good. Part two brings the yellow ring into play. Given to a mental patient who can use it in ways never thought possible to "purge evil from the Earth." With the help of other super heros (Alan Scott, Superman, Batman ect) it is a good story to help bring out the character in Kyle. All in all I like it and it's well worth a few days delivery.

New author, new chapter in the Kyle Rayner GL era..., September 1, 2001
This review is from: Green Lantern: New Journey, Old Path (Paperback)
Although Judd's pacing in the first few issues of his run were a bit off, he does eventually learn to smooth out the books pacing. He introduces growth in Kyle like we never saw in the past seven years under Marz. Finally, Kyle learns to use the power ring in more "imaginative" ways than just plain constructs. I'd definitely want to pick up the start of what I think will be a better GL run.
