This review is from: Green Lantern Vol. 3: Wanted - Hal Jordan (Hardcover)
Green Lantern: Wanted - Hal Jordan compiles issues 14 through 20 of the current GL series. The first story covers the capture of Hal Jordan and two of his fellow pilots by terrorists where they are tortured for over three months prior to escaping. When the terrorists are located again, Hal goes in to capture them and rescue a recaptured comrade when an unexpected turn of events causes all hell to break loose and he ends up being branded an international criminal. This roller coaster ride ultimately leads Hal Jordan to a figure linked to the day Hal first became a Green Lantern as well as events that will play a large part in his imminent future.

The second story arc in this collection features the return of an old Green Lantern foe, Star Sapphire. This time around there is a new twist to how her powers are generated. I won't spoil the details but it is an interesting spin on an old character and could have major ramifications for the Green Lantern Corp in future stories.

Both stories move along very well and appear to form a foundation for larger events in the future. The art switches from Ivan Reis in the first story to Daniel Acuna in the second. Acuna paints in a somewhat funky style, while Reis provides highly detailed pencils makes so it is a particularly jarring change. Fortunately, Geoff Johns writes the entire volume so there is at least some cohesion.

This book is not only very entertaining in its own right, it appears to be a foundation for major events in the future. I'm wary of every saying "Green Lantern will never be the same again" because that tag line is used all the time and is virtually never true. I will say that in the near future, events will likely unfold whose seeds are planted here. The bottom line is that whether reading solely for the present or preparing for the future this book is well worth owning.

5.0 out of 5 stars He's a wanted man..., August 30, 2007
This review is from: Green Lantern Vol. 3: Wanted - Hal Jordan (Hardcover)
Hal Jordan has been a busy man since writer Geoff Johns brought him back from the dead. He's re-joined the Justice League, played a vital role during the cataclysmic events of Infinite Crisis, and now he's been framed and is wanted for being an international terrorist. Yeah, the poor guy just can't catch a break. This is why Geoff Johns is one of, if not the, best superhero writers in comics today. His obvious affection for the Green Lantern mythos has made his run on the title the best the character has seen in eons, and the new twists that Johns has put on old foes has been a sight to behold to say the least. Case in point, old foe Star Saphire gets a new twist on her powers and abilities as she and Hal go head to head; all the while Hal fights to clear his name and save the day. The artwork by Ivan Reis and Daniel Acuna (to a lesser degree) is wonderful as well to boot. As the previous review stated, one gets the feeling that Johns is gearing towards something big happening in the near future, and indeed something is as the Green Lantern mythos is getting re-established for a new generation of comic readers, and will attempt to be propelled to big time territory. The best part of this is with Johns at the helm, the possibilities are almost endless. All in all, Wanted - Hal Jordan is the best TPB in Johns' Green Lantern relaunch yet, and even for those who haven't been following his run but are fans of the character, consider this TPB a must own.

3.0 out of 5 stars Wraps up the first two volumes, August 5, 2008

This review is from: Green Lantern Vol. 3: Wanted - Hal Jordan (Hardcover)
Altough theres some good Green lantern action, this is not the most inspiring of Green Lantern comics. The stories presented here are really worth something for those who have read the previous two volumes, if you have read them and you like Grren Lantern it may be for you.

The first story arc completes the story of the plot against Hal Jordan, wich is nice, but is not as impressive as the lost lanterns or Hector Hammond and Black Hand. It's nevertheless a good story, with good art, and someinteresting insights in Hal Jordan's character. It aslo show some interesting pages (one or two) introducing elements form the Sinestro Corps Wars, wich is also nice.

Ths second story its interesting as it shows the forging of the first violet ring, and explins its relation with the Star Zaphire and the Zamarons. The real problem is the art, which is really, really awfull. It takes at least one star from my review.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Story, then OK Story, July 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I found the first half of the book with the Wanted storyline to be very good. I found that both the art and the pacing was very well done and kept you hooked.

The second half of the book, the Star Sapphire storyline, kind of plods along and is mostly just setting the groundwork for future storylines. Also, the artist changed so I found the style shift to be particularly jarring. It's not that the artwork was bad, it's just quite the shift from the first half that you kind of think you're almost reading an entirely different comic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sinestro Corps wants you!, October 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Pretty cool story in which Hal Jordan is framed for murder on international borders. The world is seeying him as a menace. On top of that someone has put a price on his head. Whom?. You'll find out here.

In that same arc we can see Sinestro Corps recruiting. Check ou the interesting choices they made. Priceless!!!.

There's a second arc in which the power of the Star Saphire and a little bit of the Guardians past is seen. Very informative!. This not only help To the Sinestro Corps arc but maybe even Blackest Night.

For the price I paid, this is easy 4 stars. Good content, great fun and reasonable price.

4.0 out of 5 stars More Green Lantern adventures, March 17, 2009
By
Simon (Brampton, ON) - See all my reviews
Green Lantern: Wanted Hal Jordan collects issues 14-20 of the current Geoff Johns' run and is the next collected edition after Green Lantern Vol. 2: Revenge of the Green Lanterns.

I'm not a fan of Hal Jordan's P.O.W. status during the missing year, mostly as it seems to reference a life-changing event that will ultimately be overshadowed by the epic, space opera tales of Green Lantern: The Sinestro Corps War, Vol. 1 and the forthcoming Blackest Night. Hal must rescue his fellow-pilot and romantic interest Cowgirl from a mission gone awry, and gets entangled in superhero politics and alien bounty hunters. The politics are a little dry if you aren't up to speed on the DC Universe, and as a result this volume feels a little less self-contained than the two that came before it.

The other stories are excellent however, including Abin Sur's son come to seek revenge and the rebirth of the Star Sapphires. These add a bit more of that cosmic influence readers expect from a Green Lantern story. Daniel Acuna's art for the Star Sapphire story seems to get mixed reviews, but I love it. It's jarring from the clean pencils of Ivan Reis (responsible for the bulk of Green Lantern) but seems to fit the romantic elements of the tale and the fact that the story is told from Carol Ferris' perspective. Also sprinkled along the way are teases for the Sinestro Corps War, which starts in the next volume.

In all a great buy for Green Lantern fans, but probably the weakest of the collected Geoff Johns stories at the same time.

4.0 out of 5 stars An engaging chapter that lays groundwork for the future, October 17, 2011
The Green Lantern saga continues to build momentum with this volume, delivering a gripping story and preparing for the epic struggles that are soon to come. My only gripe is Acuna's art on the second arc in this volume, which is a dramatic departure from the style of the rest of the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Redeems Itself in the Second Half, September 26, 2010
By
Tyler S. "Super-Review" (Brentwood, CA United States) - See all my reviews
I wasn't enjoying this too much, until the last few issues. It had way too many characters flooded into the storyline, and plotlines became to numerous. It was entertaining, but I felt like Johns tried to throw in too much. However, when the Star Sapphire storyline enters, the book gets so much better. I loved the artwork at the end, and it complimented a great scandalous arc. The whole Russia plot was a little boring, and then it became annoying as everybody from the D.C. universe entered. But thankfully, Wanted: Hal Jordan goes out with a bang.

You'll definately have some good laughs with this book too. The bit with Batman was hilarious. There's enough here to give it 4 stars, but you have to read some 3 star material to get to it. Definately the weakest in the series, but better than most comic books out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bounty Hunters and Ex-Lovers, Oh My!, September 6, 2010
By
"Green Lantern: Rebirth" help clear the table for the return of Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps. With the deck cleared, "No Fear" and "Revenge of the Green Lanterns" gave us the monthly adventures of Hal, a combination of classic Green Lantern stories with a modern sensibility. "Wanted - Hal Jordan0" continues that trend while serving as a harbinger for things to come in Geoff Johns' Green Lantern saga.

The collection consists of two stories. The titular "Wanted - Hal Jordan" picks up where "Revenge of the Green Lanterns" left off. In the previous book, we learned that someone had put a price on Hal Jordan's head, a price that was attracting every intergalactic bounty hunter short of Lobo himself. Hal's attempts to discover the bounty's origin are sidetracked when he is framed for murder by the Global Guardians and ends up with the Rocket Reds and the JLA on his tail.

The second story, "Secrets of the Star Sapphires" sees Hal having to go up against one of his oldest foes for the first time since his resurrection. Just as with Sinestro's yellow ring in "Rebirth", Johns reinterprets the Star Sapphires, offering a new take on their power and tying it into the mythology building that marks his tenure on Green Lantern.

This volume is also the last calm before the storm, as both stories lay the final groundwork for the Sinestro Corps War. Ivan Reis and Daniel Acuana's artwork for both stories is spectacular and fitting.
