I have known Freda Day for many years however was very intrigued with this memoir.We had not seen each other in almost twenty years and was just recently reunited a few months ago. I actually sang in her wedding to Ed Davidson and is God mother to one of her children. I have not yet finished the book but I am really gaining insight into what a lot of educated African American women suffer at the hands of family and generations of hidden and undiscussed family dysfunction. The black culture is taught to sometimes not be as up front and personal about our struggles and I commend Ms. Day for coming out with such a catharis. I will give my final review after I have completed this work. I am encouraging friends to read this book and I will be hosting a book discussion in the very near future. Denise Cooper
