5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensible reference book
This remarkably well-researched, comprehensive work includes chapters on food, building materials, socially responsible investments, clothing, bedding, pets, babies/children, personal care products, recycling, transportation, eco-travel, and more. At the end of each chapter is an extensive list of sources for the green products mentioned and for further information. Much...

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I was expecting a lot more out of this book. It scratched the surface of a huge topic without enough content.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensible reference book, July 8, 2005

This review is from: Green Living: The E Magazine Handbook for Living Lightly on the Earth (Mass Market Paperback)
Much of the appeal of this highly informative book lies in its user-friendly practicality and its reassuring, encouraging advice. Engaging, eye-opening reading that'll really get you psyched to clean up your act.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great reference for everyday life, January 7, 2007
This review is from: Green Living: The E Magazine Handbook for Living Lightly on the Earth (Mass Market Paperback)
I have purchased this book twice now - once for myself, once as a gift - and I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again. Most of the ideas are easy to implement and are accompanied by clear explanations of the ecologic and economic values of "being green." The sections are easy to read and generally interesting, and the resources provided within the text and at the end are quite useful. When you implement the suggestions in this book, you will help the Earth and save money, making it a great value in more ways than one. Highly recommended for "greenies" and "non-greenies" alike. This book was written by the folks at "E the Environmental Magazine" (also terrific, and chock full of great ideas for everyday living).

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Reference Book, August 27, 2006

This review is from: Green Living: The E Magazine Handbook for Living Lightly on the Earth (Mass Market Paperback)
This book's finest and most invaluable quality is that not only does it explain the many hazards modern living has bestowed but it also gives you a way out. At the end of every chapter are website addresses, names and contact information for companies that fill the need for whatever it is you're used to living with (household cleaners, make-up, baby products, energy) but minus the unwanted chemicals or environmental side effects. It provides a solution, not just the problem.

I bought this book after seeing a review in Newsweek. It's the best $11 dollars I've ever spent on a book! Despite the wealth of information already prevalent on the internet, I have not been able to stop turning to it as a reference guide since. All the topics are well-researched, up-to-date, and are outlined in a simple, easy-to-read format. I love how practical the book is... at the end of every chapter are websites and other "green" resources relating to the chapter topic as practical ways of starting changes in our ways of living. If you have watched Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" and are aching to begin a healthier way of living, then do your self and your family a favor and read this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great starter guide to green, April 6, 2007
By
This review is from: Green Living: The E Magazine Handbook for Living Lightly on the Earth (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is a great resource of information for living a healthier, greener life. I would recommend this book to anyone just to have around as a reference for their home. My favorite thing about this book would be the reference it lists for starting a broader search on the eco-friendly topics that interest you the most.

This book is amazing. My professor suggested this book and it has changed my life. I only shop organic. I have learned that when you shop at farmer's markets you save a ton of money. I go to Trader Joe's for everything else. I am currently making my home more eco-friendly. This book even changed the way I allocate my money for my retirement. This book is awesome!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars the path of green living, December 3, 2007
This review is from: Green Living: The E Magazine Handbook for Living Lightly on the Earth (Mass Market Paperback)
I truly enjoyed this book. It is a great reference for someone like myself that is new to going green. I enjoy the fact that the book gives you information on why certain products are not healthy and then gives you options on things you can do as well as alternative products to use. This is a great book of reference on your book shelf if you are new to going green. I am sure there are some more intense books if you are aware of the general information this book gives. It was an easy read and has me wanting to make some serious changes (I have already started using organic and vegan soap). I plan on buying this book for various family members and friends.

This review is from: Green Living: The E Magazine Handbook for Living Lightly on the Earth (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is really a great get started check list with enough details to be helpful and get people on the right track. It makes a great gift as it is an easy read and is not too preachy or overwrought. As with everything else, you can not write a book that covers this much material and have detailed information on each subject. It does help you target the places you feel you can be greener without much effort and give you a course of action that may require more research on more complicated things like systems for your home. This would be a great read for middle school & high school students as part of Earth Week.
