Former Take That pretty-boy Markie goes solo,
By yokoboy@hotmail.com (Northern California, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Green Man (Audio CD)
With the success of Gary Barlow & Robbie Williams after the demise of boy-band Take That, one would figure it was just a matter of time before the band's prettiest boy Mark Owen went solo. Although I initially didn't like this album, after a few listens some of the songs grew on me.The album spawned the singles "Clementine", "Child" and "I Am What I Am", but notably the best tracks are one that weren't singles. In my opinion, one of the albums best is the psychedelically-tinged "Second Hand Wonderland". This song is definately Markie's finest hour and proves that he's got the ability to pen a good lyric. Other good songs here are "Ask Him To", "My Love" and the singles "Clementine" and "Child". Would I recommend this album? Well, yes, but I would first warn that if you are expecting him to sound anything like his former band or former band mates, BEWARE!! This album is more adult contemporary than the pop stylings of Take That, Robbie Williams or Gary Barlow. Then again, one only has to remember that Markie's Take That contributions ("Babe", "The Day After Tomorrow") really weren't typical Take That material either. Markie's style is more that of an early Andy Gibb than of his former band/bandmates.

Good Solo Effort,

Mark was always described as the cute one in Take That so its a nice suprise to see that Mark can cut it on his own. Featuring the hit singles, Child, Clemetine and I Am What I Am (my favourite) Mark shows that he isnt just a pretty face. The album continues with other great songs like, Move On, Green Man and My love. This album is definitly worth buying and its a shame that he didnt get more credit for this album as its a fantastic solo debut

I have bought this CD for 4 years and I think the songs are really nice. I have ever loved Mark Owen since Take That. But what is he doing now? I didn't hear anything anymore. It's a pity, because his voice is fantastic. If I were u, i would buy this CD!!
