4.0 out of 5 stars Former Take That pretty-boy Markie goes solo
With the success of Gary Barlow & Robbie Williams after the demise of boy-band Take That, one would figure it was just a matter of time before the band's prettiest boy Mark Owen went solo. Although I initially didn't like this album, after a few listens some of the songs grew on me.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Lovely Mark Owen
I bought this cd right when it came out. I was a HUGE Take That fan and was completely obsessed with Mark. (Silly Teenage Years). I think this album is good, but not as good as it could have been. I haven't heard any news about another album from him, though it would be nice!

4.0 out of 5 stars Former Take That pretty-boy Markie goes solo, June 3, 1999

With the success of Gary Barlow & Robbie Williams after the demise of boy-band Take That, one would figure it was just a matter of time before the band's prettiest boy Mark Owen went solo. Although I initially didn't like this album, after a few listens some of the songs grew on me.

The album spawned the singles "Clementine", "Child" and "I Am What I Am", but notably the best tracks are one that weren't singles. In my opinion, one of the albums best is the psychedelically-tinged "Second Hand Wonderland". This song is definately Markie's finest hour and proves that he's got the ability to pen a good lyric. Other good songs here are "Ask Him To", "My Love" and the singles "Clementine" and "Child".

Would I recommend this album? Well, yes, but I would first warn that if you are expecting him to sound anything like his former band or former band mates, BEWARE!! This album is more adult contemporary than the pop stylings of Take That, Robbie Williams or Gary Barlow. Then again, one only has to remember that Markie's Take That contributions ("Babe", "The Day After Tomorrow") really weren't typical Take That material either. Markie's style is more that of an early Andy Gibb than of his former band/bandmates.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Solo Effort, February 27, 2001

Mark was always described as the cute one in Take That so its a nice suprise to see that Mark can cut it on his own. Featuring the hit singles, Child, Clemetine and I Am What I Am (my favourite) Mark shows that he isnt just a pretty face. The album continues with other great songs like, Move On, Green Man and My love. This album is definitly worth buying and its a shame that he didnt get more credit for this album as its a fantastic solo debut

I have bought this CD for 4 years and I think the songs are really nice. I have ever loved Mark Owen since Take That. But what is he doing now? I didn't hear anything anymore. It's a pity, because his voice is fantastic. If I were u, i would buy this CD!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mark Owen, rock on baby!, May 6, 1999

Buy this album if you want honest, sincere, groovy music that is different to Take That. I loved Take That, but this album makes you grow. Mark did so well on this album and it's hard to believe the entire thing was written and recorded in under a year. The best tracks are "Child" "Are You With Me", "Move On", "My Love", and "I Am What I Am". The whole album captures significant parts of Mark's life, but there is always something you can relate to in it yourself. The good news is after quite a musical drought, Mark will be back with another album having co-written some tracks with big names, so it shouldn't be too long before we hear from him again. Until the next album though, buy this because it'll be the best money you've ever spent!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Take That Back, January 6, 2003
This review is from: Green Man (Audio CD)
From British BoyBand "Take That" to solo stardum as a solo artist, but Mark Owen wasn't given all the credit that he diserved. He co-wrote some of the tracks on the album including the track that "Take That" had a hit with called "Babe". Also his sound is new and fresh, not like other members that decided to go solo (no names mentioned)that just don't know the meaning of originality. He's got a new "Quere Alternate" sound and pulls out the guitars and piano on "Clemintine" and hands over the strings on "child" and "Green Man". So all in all Mark, although the media seem to think he's in a dead end, has done pretty well on this album if you ask me, it's not easy to split from the U.Ks biggest boy band and still be ontop. So Mark...If your listening...We still love you and your music...Plus you're still VERY CUTE.
