5.0 out of 5 stars Another Thomas Newman journey to music satisfaction!
Following the beautiful music of Shawshank, this is another example of Thomas Newman`s talent. I find that I am always eagarly awaiting his next soundtrack. I had no sooner left the movie theatre after watching (The Green Mile) that my wife looked at me and said, you`re going to get the cd aren`t you. The way Newman blends each piece of music together just speaks...

2.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat Dark
I found this CD to have very dark-natured music, not very enjoyable for the most part as the individual tracks changed so often that the feel of the CD is not very cohesive.

This is a superb score. Don't let the cd samples fool you too much. Most of these songs contain various parts to them and a simple thirty second listening experience will not suffice!

I found myself driving through the prarie land of Illinois on a freezing winter's night, listening to this cd and feeling like I was in a dream. I'm being completely honest with you. It was amazing.

Tracks likes Foolishment, Night Journey, and Danger of Hell are hauntingly mesmerizing. Track #32, Coffey on the Mile, is one of Newman's greatest accomplishments ever. Track #37, the song played during the credits, will leave you in a thick state of deep contemplation. You will love this one.

All in all, this is one of Newman's greatest scores, and arguably the best of all time for Mr. Newman. You will love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Shawshank? Not A Problem!, December 24, 1999
This review is from: The Green Mile: Score from the Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I read some of the other comments posted here and immediately think that THE GREEN MILE, both the movie and the score, seems to demand an unwarranted comparison to THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION. They are not the same movie, so by rights they should not be the same score. Still, with so many of SHAWSHANK'S crew (including Thomas Newman) returning for this one, I suppose comparison is inevitable... so for what it's worth, GREEN MILE's score IS considerably more restrained than SHAWSHANK. But all the same, it is fantastic. Contemplative and somber, emotional and eerie. If SHAWSHANK was all about hope, GREEN MILE is its dark cousin, sadder and much more tragic. I could understand, if one has not seen the movie, this CD coming off as underwhelming. But after seeing it, the CD is a perfect souvenir, encapsulating all of the quirks and bumps and revelations that made this movie so darned good in the first place.

5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece!, March 2, 2001

Just like the film, the soundtrack score to "The Green Mile" is a melodic and viscerally haunting masterpiece in music making, with some of the most emotional chords I've ever heard in a soundtrack. Music plays a big part in this movie, as in all movies, and it is clear that composer Thomas Newman understands this perogative, for his score moves us to tears in the final moments of the movie. Every string, every note plays, conveys some emotion or feeling expressed by the character of John Coffey. Not to ruin the ending, but the music for the final ten minutes will have you in tears. This is one of those soundtracks that ranks on par with composers like James Horner, and stays in your mind forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thomas Newman hits the right mark with "The Green Mile"ÿ, December 25, 1999
This review is from: The Green Mile: Score from the Motion Picture (Audio CD)
For all of you thinking of purchasing this cd, please do so right now! DO NOT listen to the above reviewer's comments for I believe they did not do this score justice! This is a masterpiece, a quirky, dramatic, and often poulse-pounding score. Newman has definitely surpassed his previous Stephen King prison movie effort, The Shawshank Redemption. For those of you who loved the Shawshank score, there's plenty more on this on! It's length is about an hour and fourteen minutes. For those of you who are waiting for the American Beauty score to come out, pick this one up while you're waiting...you might even like it better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute perfection, January 21, 2000
This review is from: The Green Mile: Score from the Motion Picture (Audio CD)
Like the Shawshank Redemption soundtrack, this one is an absolute masterpiece, which is good, since the movie was also a masterpiece. I rate this CD very high on my goosebump scale. The music is both haunting and emotive. I have over 50 soundtracks on CD, and this one has been in the player almost exclusively since I got it. Do not hesitate, purchase it now. I'm on a mission to collect all the works of this fine composer, as there are several.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Thomas Newman Score, March 22, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Green Mile: Score from the Motion Picture (Audio CD)
While I love American Beauty and Shawshank Redemption, this is one of Newman's longest scores, so there's more listening time. The styles are diverse including some Billie Holiday. I have listened to this score hundreds of times and have not tired of it. I always hear something new. If you are a Thomas Newman fan, this is an essentail part of any collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Newman's Best, March 30, 2001
This review is from: The Green Mile: Score from the Motion Picture (Audio CD)
If one reading this has ever at some time had personal reflections with music, then you can appreciate this CD. I found the Shawshank Redemtion score to be awsome, but this is perfect. This is what Pure Moods should have been. It is rare for me to find a CD with anything that I sit alone with and just simply listen to, and have a deeper look at my self with, this is a whole CD filled with such music. If you like this type of music then I personaly warrenty you will like this. As for the other comment about construction quality, as of yet I have found nothing wrong with this CD. It is published by Warner Bros. and seeing as I have has a John Fogerty CD, for 3 years now, made by them, I can only assume the same level out of this.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Green Mile Soundtrack, August 26, 2006
This review is from: The Green Mile: Score from the Motion Picture (Audio CD)
If you have been emotionally moved during the viewing of
'The Green Mile' it is largely due to composer Thomas Newman's wonderful score. His music accents such emotions as loss, hope, fear, honour and melancholy. His music is the very sounds of isolation and long uninterrupted thoughts. The songs 'Coffey on the mile' and 'The Green Mile' from the soundtrack are sure to stick in your head long after you hear them. If you are familiar with Thomas Newman's work on 'The Shawshank Redemption', 'American Beauty' or 'Road to Perdistion', you will certainly want to add the 'The Green Mile' to your collection as well.
