4.0 out of 5 stars "Tres intense" K-cup blend stronger than the usual fare
Dark Magic is for coffee drinkers searching for something bolder than the breakfast blends and flavored coffees ubiquitous on supermarket shelves. Whether it will satisfy depends on what you normally buy at coffee shops. My wife favors a latte or mocha, so she found Dark Magic too strong. I prefer an Americano, so I liked this roast.

I tested the Dark Magic...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, not great either.
I purchased this coffee because both the Newman's Own and Sumatran Reserve were priced up near $1 per k-cup this month, and I needed something dark and bold to replace them until the prices came back down. This coffee brewed up strong, but had a bit of an empty, bitter finish. The caffeine content is acceptable. The package could have been treated a little better...

I tested the Dark Magic blend on Keurig's small cup (5.25 oz) setting to capture the strongest flavor. It was a nice improvement from Green Mountain's Fair Trade Gingerbread I drank earlier in the week. Dark Magic is bolder than Tully's Coffee Kona Blend or Green Mountain Coffee Breakfast Blend but no more bitter.

If you need more caffeine, I recommend you add a SToK Caffeinated Black Coffee Shot.

In summary, I like "tres intense" roasts and Green Mountain Coffee Dark Magic is the darkest I have found in the Keurig lineup. I will post an update should I try a stronger blend than Dark Magic. Rating: Four stars.

BTW: Here are other coffees I recently reviewed for Amazon:

5 stars: Van Houtte Chocolate Raspberry Truffle
4 stars: Tully's Coffee Kona Blend
4 stars: Green Mountain Coffee Dark Magic
3 stars: Green Mountain Coffee Breakfast Blend
3 stars: Green Mountain Coffee Fair Trade Gingerbread

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly great coffee, May 29, 2010

The Keurig system is marvelous--and the Dark Magic coffee is delicious. But Amazon is falling down on the job a bit with this price--you can buy a box of 24 K cups from the Keurig site for $13.95--and get a discount as muc as 15% if you are a repeat buyer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark Magic is my kind of Magic, February 13, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Green Mountain's Dark Magic Extra Bold is my go-to coffee for use with my Keurig coffee machine. I go through more of this particular flavor then any other type of coffee. In fact I don't think a day goes by that I don't have at least 1 cup of this flavor, if not more. Don't let the words dark and extra bold scare you off - this coffee is rich, smooth and in many ways mellow. Its not overly acidic, it does't taste burnt, its just a good cup of "coffee flavored coffee". It works well with most flavored creamers, sweeteners, but is a pleasant cup in its pure and unadorned form as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars As strong as K-Cups get, September 17, 2006

This is it, the only Kcup that is strong enough to have taste at the largest setting. What more can I say, when I want something other than coffee water I reach for the Dark Magic.

Cheers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good, strong cup of coffee, April 3, 2009

This is my daily morning cup of coffee. I like strong coffee and this has become my favorite. I do not like the coffee at, say, Dunkin' Donuts. In the afternoons, I like Coffee People decaf or Timothy's decaf Hazelnut. But for a good, regular cup, Green Mountain Dark Magic Extra Bold is it.

This has become my favorite coffeee. It is strong and bold without being bitter. I even make a second cup with the same puck and it is still good.

4.0 out of 5 stars It grows on you!, January 9, 2007

After drinking mostly light and medium roast coffees, I took the plunge into Green Mountain Coffee Extra Bold Dark Magic. Initially, I wasn't sure if I liked it. But, now its robust flavor makes it one of my favorites.

I love this coffee! It's the next best thing to espresso. If you like your coffee strong and dark, without being bitter, this is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smooth and rich, April 16, 2009
Green Mountain Coffee Roasters began life as a cafe in rural Vermont. They specialized in quality coffee, and continue that tradition through to today.

Now, with a name like Dark Magic Extra Bold, you might expect an overpowering coffee - you know, the kind that will grow hair on your chest whether you want it or not? Well, in fact, this coffee is smooth and rich, and (if made right) not overpowering at all. I find this to be a delicious coffee, one that I enjoy any day of the week.

5.0 out of 5 stars It will singe your nose hairs!, April 23, 2011

I like a lot of crap in my coffee, and yet I still like the flavor of coffee. Generally, with as much crap as I put in it (think half and half, flavored creamer, truvia and flavored syrup), I can no longer taste the coffee. *DUH* I bet you are saying, "well clearly she doesn't like the taste of coffee" but really I do! So I am usually left thinking "why did I put so much crap in my coffee??" Well, problem solved with this Dark Magic. The [great] coffee flavor comes through loud and clear, even with all my additions. I can only imagine that if I DIDN'T put all this crap in it I might singe my nose hairs because boy is it strong! You people who drink it without diluting it, a lot, are my heroes.
