Add cream to the cup first; Brew on espresso or standard setting; Clear brew chamber after use!,

Received a couple samples of this along with my Keurig brewer. I like hot chocolate and love the convenience of the Keurig brew system. Bought more and discovered some quirks during repeated use-so I rate this product a 4.As I am in the habit of putting cream in my cup before making tea or coffee, having found things taste better that way, I automatically did the same when using the Green Mountain hot cocoa. I encourage you to try it both ways and discover the difference for yourself. Made with water alone, this cocoa is just passable: when made with cream or milk in the cup, it is tasty. Adding cream or milk to the cup and using the espresso or standard setting yields a good result. These pods contain enough material to work well on either the espresso or standard cup settings, depending on how much milk is used. For a travel cup size, use two pods, one after the other. First add cream or milk to the bottom of a cup, run the cocoa pod through on the espresso setting and pour the resulting brew into your travel mug. Repeat the process-voila! Travel mug cocoa to go. Once, absentmindedly having put milk in the bottom of a large mug, and pressing "Brew", I discovered I'd forgotten to put the cocoa pod in the chamber. I had it on the espresso setting and what I had at that point was some beautifully steamed milk. As it was a large mug, I put the cocoa pod into the brew chamber. Using the espresso setting, I pressed "Brew". Strong cocoa blended beautifully with steamed milk-it was surprisingly tasty. For a mocha, use a favorite coffee pod in the chamber with milk in the mug, then add the Green Mountain Cocoa. My general recommendation for enjoying and making the most of Green Mountain Hot Cocoa K-cups is easy as ABC: 1. Add cream, half-and-half or whole milk to a cup before brewing. 2. Brew using Keurig's espresso or standard settings. 3. Clear the brew chamber using hot water after each use.* Enjoy your Green Mountain Hot Cocoa! *I strongly recommend clearing the brew chamber after using cocoa or other flavored pods containing sweeteners, sugar, corn syrup solids or milk. Toss the pod and run an espresso shot of hot water through the empty brew chamber into a second cup, discarding the contents into a sink. Why? With repeated use, hot chocolate, cocoa or flavored coffee or tea pods containing sweeteners can create an invisible film at the bottom of the brew chamber, resulting in problems with the system's outflow port and increased resistance to flow. Like a hardened bubble it can't be seen-unlike a bubble it does not evaporate and the resulting back pressure creates malfunctions in the system-all stemming from an invisible source. It can be easily resolved with a simple cleaning and is easily prevented by routine clearing. I offer this report so you can understand why I choose to clear the brew chamber with hot water each time cocoa is brewed. Clearing is simply faster. At the very bottom of the brew chamber, where hot water, coffee, tea or chocolate are meant to flow to the cup, a bio-film accumulated with repeated sweetened cocoa pod use in something under a week. Even when using a high-powered LED flashlight to examine all parts of the brew chamber, this bio-film could not be seen, yet the result was a series of complex system malfunctions, all related to back pressure, resistance, and flow beginning at the bottom of the outflow port. So if you've been using this product or something similarly sweet and your favorite coffee seems unusually weak, coffee pods removed from a brewer are unusually heavy because the water is not fully emptied during use, delays occur after pressing "Brew" and other than pristine water begins to enter the water tank from the top mounted overflow tube, your system may simply need cleaning. This is not a problem with the K-cup brewing system nor is it particular to the use of Green Mountain cocoa products. Fact is, Keurig brewers were designed for optimal use with pods containing coffee or tea through which water easily flows. They were not designed for optimal use with pods containing powdered milk and sweeteners. So if you are experiencing the problems I described above after using sweetened brew pods of any sort, follow the cleaning instructions for your brewer or white vinegar followed by water. Since I began running hot water through the brew chamber after each cocoa pod use, everything works beautifully, and my coffee, tea and Green Mountain Hot Cocoa are all delicious.

This was in a variety pack. It tasted like hot water with a brown crayon dipped into it. Couldn't even force myself to drink it, it was that bad.

Over $58 for 16 k-cups. Ugh! I found the same brand, but 24 count - 50% more than here, at $14.95 on the Keurig web site. And, hot cocoa is even less at other web sites if you are not specifically loooking for Green Mountain brand.

Received sample pack containing Green Mt. Hot Cocoa. Shared cocoa with two others to make sure my tastebuds were not tricking me. This is bad tasting - abominable even! Sure one could add milk or creamer, but do not buy this at any price. Go back to your microwaved Carnation Instant or some like brand!

Is this hot chocolate....yesIs this good hot chocolate....um, sorta Is this gourmet hot chocolate....not a chance. In my opinion, the only advantage you get but using the Green Mountain K-cups of hot chocolate is the simplicity of using your Keurig machine to heat the water instead of using the microwave or stove-top. Other than that the finished product is comparable to any Swiss Miss or other brand of powdered instant cocoa. It actually may be worse if you use the largest setting on your machine. The largest setting makes it much too watery. Green Mountain needs to go back to the drawing board on this. 3 stars because it does make hot chocolate in your Keurig without having to dirty dishes and tear open pouches, but if you're looking for good hot chocolate, keep shopping.
