Glad I bought it December 22, 2009
I am writing this because I had SO much difficulty finding more than a handful of customer reviews online when trying to find a juicer.
My family has been juicing for years now with a popular-brand centrifugal juicer. My stepdad was diagnosed with cancer and we started researching the Gerson Therapy. This juicer is NOT recommended for the Gerson Therapy, but their system is so complicated and expensive we decided to compromise. We went with a twin-gear because it's a much better juicer than a centrifugal but it's not nearly as much trouble as a 2-stage press system.

Anyway, we love it. We estimate we're getting twice as much juice per-veggie than we did with the centrifugal juicer. We juice at least 4 times per week (for 3 people) so we're thinking the price difference will easily be paid in a year just from the savings on produce.

It's also easier to clean than our old one. The hardest part to clean is the mesh screen... it has some tight corners that the pulp really gets jammed into, but after cleaning it a couple times it gets much faster. The rest of the parts are easy.

I haven't experienced any of the design flaws that the other reviewer mentioned. I mention that review specifically because it almost talked me out of getting this juicer, but I'm glad I decided to go ahead anyway. No juice has leaked out in any weird areas. The only part of the safety hood on mine that got dirty was the top tray around the feed chute, which is easily rinsed off. Some pulp gets into the area immediately around where the gears attach, but that can be cleaned with a squeeze of water from the sponge and a quick wipe-off. No juice got out any other areas.

Shame on Tribest November 15, 2009
I purchased a Green Star Elite juicer sight unseen with great hopes and high expectations. This is the third twin gear juicer I have owned, the first being a Marathon and the second being a Green Star Gold, and my expectations were dashed when I used the Elite for the first time. I have to say that I am deeply disappointed in the Green Star Elite. In my opinion the design of the Elite is inferior to the Gold and the Marathon.

The twin gears on the Elite and the Gold are the same but the plastic augers on the Elite have been extended another inch or so and the screen has been lengthened a corresponding amount. The performance of the Elite is equivalent to the Gold and I can detect no difference in either the juice or the pulp. The two significant improvements between the Elite and the Gold are the latch mechanism that holds the unit together and the location of the feed chute, which is offset in the Gold and in-line in the Elite. However, the latch mechanism is also a major disadvantage to the machine.

The Elite suffers in comparison to the Gold in multiple ways. Here are the points I have found that I believe are poor design:

The auger part of the Elite begins immediately after the steel gears and there is effectively no gap. This means that about Ľ of the circumference of the grinders is not usable. In the Gold there is a gap that allows the pulp and juice to exit from the grinders before entering the augers.

The feed chute is now a part of the safety hood which covers the juicing chamber. This means that the hood must be cleaned every time the juicer is used and it is made out of thin, flimsy plastic with reinforcing ribs and is most surely not intended to be cleaned as it is very difficult to do so.

The feed chute on the Elite is smaller than the one on the Gold. The plunger, which is the same size as the one on the Gold is thus harder to fit into the chute. The corners on the chute are also much sharper than those on the Gold which again makes it harder to insert the plunger.

The plunger for the Elite is apparently made from the same molds used for the plunger on the Gold. However, the Elite plunger has a flat end where the Gold plunger is contoured to fit around the gears. The Elite plunger is not as effective as the Gold plunger and leaves food trapped in the chute.

The chute entry is part of the safety hood and the hood fits over the chute. Juice works its way into the gap and, because the hood fits over the chute, it leaks onto the gear housing.

The gear housing in the Elite contains the o-ring seal that was part of the main body in the Gold. As such, it is more subject to abrasion during cleaning.

The gear housing in the Elite seals against the main body to keep juice from leaking out but there is a boss that the safety hood must fasten to which is part of the main body but must pass through the gear housing. Thus, the sealed gear housing has a hole in it that allows juice to leak out.

It is very difficult to clean the face of the Elite main body where the gear housing attaches. Not only is the surface rougher than that of the Gold but the new latch mechanisms get in the way. This makes it difficult to reach in to clean the surfaces. Also, the Gold surface was almost flat where the Elite has a new ring of plastic that is needed for the new o-ring design. It would be an advantage if the latch mechanisms pivoted out of the way for cleaning in the same way that they do on the Gold.

The Elite main case is inferior to the Gold case in two ways. First, the Gold case handle is molded in as part of the case so it cleans easily. Not so the Elite case where the handle and the cover are different pieces. The handle has a square corner that is impossible to clean and traps juice and pulp that splashes on it. Second, the Elite has no storage for the cord, which can then get lost or must be wound up to keep out of the way.

The black stripe on the case and the safety hood is a separate piece of plastic that is screwed into the case and the hood. If juice gets between the stripe and the case it is impossible to clean out.

For these reasons I am deeply disappointed with the Elite. Based on my experience with the Gold I had hoped that the Elite would be an improvement. Sadly, this is not the case. The Elite is inferior to the Gold in many, many respects. I would have returned it in the first week but the store I purchased it from does not have a return policy. I would recommend that if you are interested in this machine that you buy it from a store that has a satisfaction guarantee. My guess is that you will need it.

Update 3/6/2010: In fairness to Tribest they have come through as a quality company should and were kind enough to replace my Elite with a Gold. I am a happy juicer once again.

i like it....! November 30, 2009
By john
i have had my gs-elite for almost 3 weeks and i really like it. it performs better for me than the gs-1000 which i have been using for several years.

i like using the wooden plunger because it is gives me a lot more sensitivity when feeding things into the feeding chute.

it seems that the gs-elite makes carrot juicing a bit easier than with the gs-1000.

the clean up is very easy for me and i like the "snap open and close" new style latching arms of the gs-elite.

most of the parts rinse off easily after a short period of soaking in the sink and i use my sink sprayer to 'squirt right on to' and clean the back part of the juicer body where everything attaches. also i can wash the cover easily in my dishwasher if needed and it comes out nice and clean.

one thing i personally enjoy about the gs-elite is that the feeding chute cover- assembly can be turned upside down and placed on a small towel after being washed so that it functions as a basket to hold the other juicer parts as they are drip drying after being washed in the sink. when i go to use my juicer again they are waiting for me nicely dried and ready to assemble.

also ...the stack of parts (drip drying in the cover basket) looks very neat as it sets on my kitchen counter.
