A great book on so many levels! My kids love the bright pictures. Each of the items in view are easily distinguishable by my kids and the whole concept of the book has been found to translate very well to reality where I have noticed a huge increase in my kids actually ASKING for fruits and vegetables more often. We've got a garden now too and this book is great for helping me enroll them in helping out.Kids most interested: Age - 9mo, 2, 5... the 8 year-old, not so much... but he does love to read this one to the others now and then!

Love it!,

This is a very simple book with lots of colorful images. It tells children where fruits and vegetables grow. Since there's no 'Look inside' option I'll give you an example: A child is by an apple tree and it reads "The red apple grows on the tree. I pick it and eat it!" In the back is a parents page on growing a garden. Great book!

Planning on planting this spring, my husband & I have been reading a lot of books about gardening. We bought this book so that we can share our hobby with our son!Although it is not a board book, it has very thick sturdy pages (think cereal box)- perfect for an aggressive tot!

Simplistic text with two major errors,
This review is from: Green Start: In the Garden (Hardcover)
The text of the book is very simplistic and repetitive. This may be OK for the intended (pre-school) audience, but less so for the parents who are actually reading the book. And while it is fine to teach children that they can pick fresh fruits and vegetables and eat them, it is glaringly inappropriate to imply that "beans" and "corn" can be eaten raw, especially when the garden shown contains plenty of other items than COULD have been eaten raw.The cover boasts about "98% recycled, with eco-friendly ink", but in the fine print it is also revealed that the book was manufactured and printed in China. Just where these eco-materials came from is not stated. Caveat Emptor!

Children today are keenly aware of environmental issues, of the virtue and value of 'living green'. To that point, Innovative Kids has newly published a four titles series of environmentally friendly board books for preschool children ages 3 to 6 that are printed on 98% recycled paper and utilize soy-based inks exclusively. The simply 'kid friendly' stories written by Leslie Bockol are very nicely illustrated by Jillian Phillips and include "Baby Animals"; "In The Garden"; "The Five Senses"; and "One Tree". Each little 'kid sized' book includes a 'Parent Page' with easy, everyday, thematically appropriate tips on protecting endangered animals, gardening tips and recipes, keeping nature beautiful, and protecting the forests. Although each titles is available separately, families, schools, day-care centers, and community libraries should acquire all four titles in this outstanding series for the benefit of young, environmentally aware kids -- and the parents who are seeking to instill those values in their children.
