Greatness, October 21, 2000
This review is from: Green Suede Shoes (Audio CD)
Larry invokes a spirt in his (and the groups) music that is unique. You simply cannot hear work like this elsewhere. You may hear many compairsons to groups like the Pouges, but I cannot for the life of me figure out why. Larry and the boys blend folk, ska, and other styles into something that is their's and their's alone. Green Suede Shoes is another fine addition to their body of work, with the trademark Larry K. sense of sardonic humour.

celtic rock with hip-hop, reggae and a pint of stout, September 18, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Green Suede Shoes (Audio CD)
black 47 is one of the most creative bands you'll ever hear. their music combines traditional irish melodies with rock and roll, with a nod to both hip-hop and reggae. this album is no exception, and more dynamically captures the band's energy than previous studio efforts. the lyrics offer glimpses into ireland's history ("bobby sands," "vinegar hill"), the irish in america ("five points"), and storytelling ("czechoslovakia," "my love is in new york," "40 deuce"). the songs are sometimes politically charged, often quite humorous, and never preachy. this band is a powerful bunch, with skilled musicians and gifted writers. primarily, they are a lot of fun. they will not disappoint.

The album that will make you want to be Irish!, August 21, 1998

This review is from: Green Suede Shoes (Audio CD)
This is truly the album that will make anyone want to be Irish. (luckily I was born with this advantage!) But don't ever figure Black 47 to be just an Irish band, they are as diverse as any band in the public eye, today. The songs are powerful, political and quite catchy! Great lyrics set to great music. Black 47 dive into the styles of rock, ska, rap and a few others without ever watering down their Celtic roots. Once you hear the songs, you'll want to go see Black 47 over and over again, (something that I highly recomend!)
