an unexpected gem among more generic disco, September 18, 2007

This album is still a very much disco album released in 1982. But here is the difference - much of the previous releases by Santa Esmeralda were packed to the gills by covers of disco standards authored by other bands and performers [that is not fully true but I am trying to make a point here so cut me some slack]. This one is almost all originals and what is more important, this is disco done with a more pronounced Latino accent. Of course, Siboney is quite a standard Latin musical number, Fortune Teller and Eye Of The Cat are very nice but the title track steals the show here with its fusion of southern rhythm and relentless drive of disco beat. Sweet Fusion is also another favorite of mine.
