5.0 out of 5 stars Great toy, simple and quality design

Bought this tool set for my son after he showed some major interest in my tool set. We've had it for a couple of months now.
Here are the pros:
-Very sturdy build. I know they look kind of flimsy in the pictures, but in reality the recycled plastic toys are not going to break or wear out in my life time. The plastic actually gives a little when strained, which I like for little hands and the safety of my furniture.
-Realistic look and feel. The pliers, screw drivers, wrenches, nuts, and screws all work perfectly and interchangeably with each other. The hammer, nails and tool box work well for getting out toddler aggression and the tightness of the nails into the tool box is just perfect for our toddler to be challenged and successful.
-Nice price for what you get, and glad to be "green" while doing it.
-Toddler tested - he no longer sneaks into my toolbox to get his tool fix. He seems fully satisfied with his tools and it has consistently been the first to come out and the last to be put away.
-Each tool is labeled and my son has already learned their names and pretends to read the labels. Nice teaching "tool."
Cons:
-The small blue building pieces are a little boring - would have liked to see something more intriguing to put together with the screws and nails, but they are easy for my son to handle and he doesn't seem to mind their simplicity.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Nifty Little Toolset from a Fantastic Company, October 26, 2009

After reading Anatole and the Toyshop, my daughter became obsessed with being a "carpenter mouse" and found she just had to have a tool set. So, she sold her old boring toys and saved her allowance, and we went searching for the perfect one. We were both thrilled to find this one by Green Toys.

Green Toys, for those unfamiliar, is a California-based company who manufactures all of their toys from recycled milk cartons --- In the USA! This means that all their toys are made from stable, safe high-density polyethylene, and don't have (or need) any scary surface paints. As a mom, this makes me so happy I could dance!

The toy itself is pretty cool from a kid-perspective too. It comes with a couple screwdrivers, two nails, two screws, two blue doohickeys that can attach one piece to another, two nuts, a saw, pliers, wrench and a hammer. Lots o' stuff. If you think outside the box - literally - there's a whole world of things that need to be repaired, sawed into a thousand pieces, and whacked repeatedly with a hammer.

My daughter has used her screwdrivers to 'fix' her broken camera. In the role of "carpenter mouse" she has very diligently dismantled an old diaper box, and freed a whole family of mice. Sometimes she gets around to hammering a nail or two into the side of the carrying case, or has a few mishaps with the screws (they're tricky and haven't been mastered yet). But definitely, if you don't use your imagination, the inserting and removing of screws/nails could become tedious and dull very quickly.

Our only disapointment with this toy was that ours came with two Phillips screwdrivers and no flat! Our daughter was already way too attached to return the thing, so I thought 'what the heck', shot Green Toys an email with all our purchase info, and the little problem we had. They responded within 24 hours. Within a week, we had not only a shiny new flathead screwdriver, but a couple spare parts for our tool set. The customer service has totally sold me on Green Toys. What an awesome company!

So, bottom line. It's safe. If you use your imagination, or rather, prod the kids in the direction of using theirs, this is a great toy.

Problem, there's not much to do with it. I wish a couple of the holes had been threaded, so toddler could practice using the screwdrivers. Instead have to master the double concept of using the nuts with the bolts first. And by then, I don't think he'll care, because there isn't anything you can put together w/this. Will have to find out if it can interact w/any other toys. None that I know of right now.

5.0 out of 5 stars My sons new favorite toy, June 27, 2011

My son got this for his first birthday and at first I was skeptical because he is so much younger than the age range but he loves it! He will carry the box around, sit down and spend a long time putting the screws into the different holes, using the screw driver to "screw" them, etc. I know other reviews talked about there not being much to do beyond the simple holes in the box however we have encouraged our son to use the tools on other items in the house. He practices sawing things like our couch, he loves to hammer everything and of course he tries to use the screw driver on screws he sees in items around our house. Since he is young we took the washers away for now since they are little and fit easily in his mouth and we watch him to stop him from walking around with the screwdrivers in his mouth but aside from that he is able to get a lot from this toy already. I love Green Toys and am happy with yet another on of their products!

Was really happy with the quality of this toy. My 2yo son LOVES this set. He's learning the names of the tools and what to use them for. He always wants to help "fix" things. It is really adorable. The only downside is the design for the use of the nails with the box. It's not setup well for my son to pound those nails in. We have a fisher drill and hammer set as well, and that one has a better design for utilizing the nails and screws. I recommend this set, but be aware of the one shortcoming.

We have a few different tool boxes, a popular brand, wooden one (which splinters and the paint chips off) a cheap plastic one, and then this Green Toys one. This is so sturdy and I love that the names of the tools are printed on each one. You can't beat toys by this brand - Green Toys stuff is made from recycled material and comes minimally packaged. We have had this for over a year now, and my son plays with it nearly every day. Anytime something is 'broken' he is on the job to 'fix' it with his tools. This is a quality toy that will last a very long time, and has endless play value.

We got this as a birthday gift for our 2 year old daughter. She's really big into doing whatever Mommy & Daddy are doing and this toolbox was perfect! It's easy to use, not too many small parts, and I love that the names of each tool are written on them (perfect since she's starting to learn letters and sounds). They're also made out of 100% recycled plastic. She's "used" them almost everyday since she got them to help Daddy on lots of projects around the house. Highly recommend them for your early toddler.

Our son is currently nineteen months old, and I'd say he's very satisfied with this tool set. I agree 100% with my wife's review, including the only possible downside being the blue building pieces being uninteresting.

This toy is awesome. Right when we opened this for Christmas, he started banging the nails into the holes in the side of the box with the hammer. Within five minutes, he picked up the screwdriver and started driving the screws. He loves this tool set. It's very basic, but I was more excited that it's made out of recycled materials.
