Green is the new white for today's brides--metaphorically speaking. Environmentally conscious couples are often appalled by the carbon footprint of traditional weddings and are seeking ways to express their earth-friendly values as they express their love. As Green Wedding shows, there are alternatives--products and services that can reduce environmental harm while ensuring a joyous and stylish celebration.
Featuring stories of couples who have "gone green" on their wedding day, this authoritative guide by New York Times Style correspondent Mireya Navarro explains how couples can green their dream wedding, and why this is important. The book presents ideas for maximizing the sustainability of every aspect of your ceremony and reception--from choosing (and reusing) wedding attire, to offsetting the global-warming impact of your guests' travel, to designing a menu (including cake and Champagne) that's seasonal, local, and organic. And because environmental responsibility isn't just a one-day affair, the book includes chapters on ecotourism honeymoons and on living sustainably throughout your married life.

I'm an environmental reporter for the New York Times in New York and I wrote "Green Wedding," a hardcover guide to eco-friendly weddings published by Stewart, Tabori & Chang. It includes advice from environmental experts and interviews with couples who share their experiences in planning a green celebration. And it features photography that shows how gorgeous and stylish a green wedding can be. For more information about "Green Wedding," and for my blog, please visit my website at www.MireyaNavarro.com. I just read "Green Wedding" to get ideas for a friend's ceremony and I loved the book. To make her points, Navarro tells the stories of several actual weddings for which the participants and planners tried to make environmentally responsible decisions, and her narratives are very down-to-earth and believable. Navarro provides dozens of photographs of these individuals and ceremonies, making her stories that much more compelling and authentic. The book is beautifully written, as you would expect from a New York Times reporter. Without being didactic, Navarro makes the case not just for green weddings, but for adopting eco-friendly lifestyles in general.
This is the best book on Green Weddings yet. We the readers are lucky that Ms. Navarro is a very well respected journalist for The New York Times. Her descriptions, her prose are all very concise, direct and to the point. Chock full of "reporting", always providing different examples and alternatives to every aspect of this very special occasion. Buy this 5-star book and have a 5-star Green Wedding!
This book is cleverly written, yet down to earth at the same time. It is full of ideas that are practical, original and actionable, with suggestions of ways to green your wedding - or really any event - in ways that are both large and small. It gave me ideas that I now even apply to my family BBQs here at home. I found in a very entertaining read...at times a little tongue-in-cheek which made it even more of a pleasure. The layout and photography are sleek, modern and stunning; this is a beautiful book. A wonderful resource!
