Book Description

April 13, 2010

When does a green home project make financial sense? The authors of this book provide the answer to this and other questions relating to the cost (and relative value) of environmentally friendly home improvements. Eric Corey Freed and Kevin Daum are experts, respectively, in green building and in financing custom homes. In this information-packed book, they walk readers through 50 green home projects and break them down according to the positive impact they have on the environment, as well as the impact they may have (both positive and negative) on the reader’s wallet. They evaluate a wide array of projects, including insulating pipes, weatherizing doors and windows, composting and recycling trash, installing a solar hot water heater, installing green countertops, upgrading appliances, building with reclaimed materials, and installing radiant heat. This unique perspective on going green is a reference that green-leaning homeowners simply cannot do without.

Brilliant lecturer and green architect Eric Corey Freed with accomplished marketer and Inc. 500 entrepreneur Kevin Daum have co-authored the perfect book for now. Smart, insightful, logical and USEful. This may be the easiest guide to follow in green building. It is so well presented (no more than 6 pgs per topic) that anyone with the slightest interest in trying to do the right thing can get a solid sense of how a project would unfold, its practicality, and its greater importance making our buildings and life more sustainable. Recommended for the family handyman and the government city planner...and for legislators to see that we could certainly use more tax or rebate incentives to help inspire truly logical home improvements. Thank you, Eric and Kevin!

It is obvious that a tremendous amount of thought went into this book and it is extremely well organized. There is something for all of us to do in this book. Eric has a way of making green accessible to everyone and he and Kevin have done a fantastic job simplifying "Green Home Projects". He makes the reader not only understand the process but motivates us to take action. I applaud them for their efforts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I need to know!, May 29, 2010

This review is from: GreenSense for the Home: Rating the Real Payoff from 50 Green Home Projects (Paperback)
I was looking for a source that could help me understand the value/benefit of specific green building systems and products. The book is very well organized so it was easy to look for the information I needed.

Additionally, the wrap-up at the end of each chapter explains the dollar value as well as the green value/benefit to the earth. The conclusion to the chapter also gives a difficulty rating. That, in itself, would have made the book worth purchasing!

This is a must read for people looking to modify their home or build a new home and are thinking about "going green." The title says it all -- GreenSense for the Home: the Real Payoff from 50 Green Home Projects
