Right Book at the Right Time,

Brilliant lecturer and green architect Eric Corey Freed with accomplished marketer and Inc. 500 entrepreneur Kevin Daum have co-authored the perfect book for now. Smart, insightful, logical and USEful. This may be the easiest guide to follow in green building. It is so well presented (no more than 6 pgs per topic) that anyone with the slightest interest in trying to do the right thing can get a solid sense of how a project would unfold, its practicality, and its greater importance making our buildings and life more sustainable. Recommended for the family handyman and the government city planner...and for legislators to see that we could certainly use more tax or rebate incentives to help inspire truly logical home improvements. Thank you, Eric and Kevin!

It is obvious that a tremendous amount of thought went into this book and it is extremely well organized. There is something for all of us to do in this book. Eric has a way of making green accessible to everyone and he and Kevin have done a fantastic job simplifying "Green Home Projects". He makes the reader not only understand the process but motivates us to take action. I applaud them for their efforts.

Just what I need to know!,

I was looking for a source that could help me understand the value/benefit of specific green building systems and products. The book is very well organized so it was easy to look for the information I needed.
Additionally, the wrap-up at the end of each chapter explains the dollar value as well as the green value/benefit to the earth. The conclusion to the chapter also gives a difficulty rating. That, in itself, would have made the book worth purchasing! This is a must read for people looking to modify their home or build a new home and are thinking about "going green." The title says it all -- GreenSense for the Home: the Real Payoff from 50 Green Home Projects

Categorized into groups by expense and difficulty of the project, this outlines many ways in which homeowners can make their homes more green. A really helpful and unusual feature is an estimation of how much the improvements will affect the sale of the house. This is the book for someone who wants to actually make a difference in their personal lives in helping to slow down global warming. I recommend this highly. However, be aware of the purpose of the book. It is not to discuss global weather change. It is to discuss practical things one can do yourself to improve matters.

A powerful homeowner's assessment guide,

This review is from: GreenSense for the Home: Rating the Real Payoff from 50 Green Home Projects (Paperback)
Eric Corey Freed and Kevin Daum's Green Sense for the Home: Rating the Real Payoff from 50 Green Home Projects provides an analysis of some fifty green home projects and comes from two experts who provide different perspectives on their value. Eric represents the Greenies and shows why a project is good for home and environment; Kevin represents affordability and practicality, and discusses project costs and pitfalls. The two working together provide a powerful homeowner's assessment guide.

If you are looking for a nice overview of ways to save money on your utilities and heating and cooling costs while also reducing your carbon footprint, then you will enjoy this book.
The authors put this book together extremely well. It is broken down into three sections based on the complexity and time involved of each task. While they give you some really great, simple ideas with DIY detail in the first section, most of the more complicated ideas discussed in the book will take some extra thought and planning than what is in the book. A good guidebook to give you some ideas and provoke thought on what you can do to maximize the potential of your home.

Hooray For A Perfectly Timed Book!,

Although I haven't yet had the pleasure of reading this book, (though I soon will!) I can personally comment on the intelligent and wonderful insight of Author, Eric Corey Freed.
As a colleague and friend, I have seen Eric speak about Green Building on numerous occasions, as well as having had the honor to share on a panel discussion with him. His no-nonsense and forthright approach is amazing! He is able to take complicated and broad subject matter and simplify it down into real-world applications that can be immediately put to use to protect your health, home or business, environment, and pocketbook. Eric Corey Freed is, in my opinion, the Ed Begley Jr. of our generation. Everything begins with baby steps, and I have no doubt that this book will have the ability to put even the biggest novice on track to being more green - thus saving some green! I will add an updated review after reading the book - stay tuned! |
