This is a great little lawnmower. The lawnmower worked like a charm the first time we used it. Unfortunately the second time, it woudn't even start. After looking online, this was a VERY common problem.

The first reason this was happening to people is that the way you work the power switch and the pull-back bar is the opposite from every other lawnmower. You DON'T pull back the bar and then push the power. You have to push the power switch and while holding it down pull back the power bar.

However, this did not work for me and many others posting on the Web. Most had to take the mower back, or take it far to get it repaired. However, after investigating I was able to fix easily. Basically, there is a common manufacturing flaw where the cable(s) going from the handle, through the switch, and to the engine are ever-so-slightly too long. After one use, things loosen a bit to where the cables are too long to fully pull back a switch that exists under the main cover over the motor, so it won't start.

The fix was easy. First, take out the battery first before doing anything!!!! I then removed the cover on the engine (six screws) and pulled it aside, leaving the wires connected to it (there is a good amount of slack to pull this off). In contrast with a bicycle, there is no way to adjust the tension anywhere on these cables (I also looked in the switch). After I had the engine cover off, however, there is a gold bar attached to the interior switch that comes off the switch parallel to the cable, then makes an "L" to hold the cable housing back a distance from the switch. With needle-nose pliers, I simply bent the small leg of the "L" back away from the interior switch 1/8 of an inch or so, so that the angle on the L was greater than 90°.

First let me say I got this from my neighborhood Lowes. I read the reviews out here but bought it there so that any warranty work would be easier. I have two quarter acre yards to cut every week. I cut them both last week. Each one took a little over a full charge. But with that said, it was the first run of the season, and the grass was a little high and damp in places that may have taxed the mower a bit more than normal.

Pros :
1. no more trips to the gas station.
2. light and maneuverable.
3. It made it through the tall grass a little better than my old mower, mostly because even the one time it died on me, I didn't have to pull a stupid cord to get it to start.
4. Battery pack can be used on multiple GreenWorks tools.
5. QUIET!!
6. did I say no more gas

Cons :
1. no local service center. The best I can tell, their service center is in Iowa. That's part of the reason I bought it from Lowes. I bought their service plan so I could get it fixed if anything went wrong easily.
2. It comes with 1 4ah battery and 1 2ah battery. It's a little insulting to skimp on that with a mower like this. GreenWorks should have provided 2 4ah batters. That would have taken care of each of my yards on one charge. I came online and bought another 4ah battery (a little expensive), and a edger (tool only), that should take care of things.
3. Company web site doesn't have much information on it. I was disappointed that there wasn't an online manual for it, or for the battery charger.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with my purchase at the moment.

Ok, so im not going to go on a tirade about global warming or shove my opinions on emissions down your throat.
instead i am going to tell you (as much as i can) an unbiased review on this device.
here is a key for my ratings:

* = 1 star, crap!
***** = 5 star, WHAT! AMAZING!

Build quality: **** - i only gave 4 stars on build quality due to the motor cover structure and the side discharge chute, the chute will get knocked loose sometimes and the cover seems kinda flimsy but otherwise well made. the simplicity of the electronics and circuitry makes this thing very reliable from a repair standpoint. i fix computers for a living so the first thing i did was inspect the design of the motor and wiring, i must say the small things make a big difference, like the terminals on the battery being on the top of the loading bay so clippings or moisture does not damage the connectors on the battery or the socket. the steel mowing deck is a nice touch as well. other than some small quibbles i feel this thing is well made.

Operation: ***** - you just cannot get any simpler. you charge the battery's, put one in, install the safety key and push go. is is kind of surreal after using gas mowers for so long and staring at the thing an thinking "that's it?!". its light weight, turns easily, folds up like a snap and takes seconds to switch between discharge/bagging/mulching. i used all 3 modes and here is what i found, the discharge is not that great IMO, it is a small opening and if you have the mower on any setting lower than 3 it clogs sometimes. the bagging works well, the bag sits at a nice angle to allow the grass to blow in and the mower spins so fast it shoots in easily.
