After moving into my new house at the beginning of 2012, I knew I wanted a garden. I had see a video about a 4 foot garden, so I purchased the Greenes Cedar Raised Garden Kit to give my new gardening venture a try. The kit came arrived quickly and it was packed well. No damage. I put together the garden myself with just a drill to screw the screws in with, and as I finished the garden, was able to manuver it in its place. I filled it up with compost and soil and planted cucumbers, peppers, swiss chard, tomatoes, and some sunflowers. Everything grew great! At the end of the growing season, I pulled the stalks out of the ground and threw them away, and turned the dead leaves etc over in the garden to amend the soil. This raised garden held up perfectly and didn't warp and didn't start to rot. I'm thinking of getting another! You'll love this raised garden!

Be VERY cautious when buying this kit! We received one as a gift and my husband was setting it up and low and behold, infested with termites. I uploaded a picture. Please see "Product Images" to view it. There were eggs on it as well. Be very careful to inspect yours before putting it near your home and save your receipt in case you need to return it!

The wood smelled so good we did not want to take it outside to work on. It is beautiful, and the pieces fit together without any shoving. The only reason for the missing star is the effort it took to screw it together, best done with a electric tools which precluded it from being constructed in site at our house.

For those who purchase more than one, as we did, we found huge plus in the ability to configure the pieces into a small low bed for herbs close to the kitchen and a large taller one -- 12' long -- for a more substantial vegetable bed, out of sight of the house.

Product arrived so fast, I never had time to forget about it. Extremely easy to put together. I couldn't buy the lumber for the price I paid. Can't wait to load it up with dirt and plant.

I really like that I was able to put it together myself with my somewhat limited home tools. The only thing they don't mention in the description is that you really do need a drill with a 1/16" drill bit. You have to deepen the pre-drilled holes. I thought a power screw driver would be enough and it was the more important tool, but I needed the drill too. Can't wait until it's warm enough to plant some veggies.

I could have purchased these materials for about $40 at the nearest big-box home improvement store, since the side panel boards are quite thin (5/8"). The real value of this kit is in the convenience. Not having to cut lumber was the big draw for me, since I have only manual saws and the hardware store charges for cutting services. The dovetail joints make it fast and easy to assemble, and if you don't own a power drill/screwdriver you can even leave off the post tops and go totally tool-free. I'll be interested to see whether the materials are durable.

Since this does not have any anchor components to hold the frame in place, it's highly beneficial to set it down into the ground a bit. I dug in a couple of inches, snugged the frame in, dug out another 4-5 inches of earth below the frame, then filled the bed. In order to get good vegetable yield, the max depth of 10.5" this kit provides is not enough. You really need several more inches of quality growing medium.

I wound up buying a total of 3 kits last year. They went together easily and have held up great this winter. My only caveat is that the deeper of the two beds is not really deep enough for tomatoes, unless you are going to dig down into the ground beneath the bed (that wasn't an option for me). For my tomatoes, I stacked two full kits together (without a divider between the two) and reinforced the middle posts with a 2x4 (trust me, when filled soil, you'll need to reinforce the middle posts if you stack them). I grew 6 'Cherokee Purple' tomato plants that went crazy. I have another kit, used as pictured, In the deeper of the two sections, I have my herbs. In the other one, last year I grew onions and lettuce, which did beautifully.

I have been so pleased with these kits that I'm buying another one this year!

I was able to put this together in less than an hour. It contains all the parts you need to assemble in no time. Using a power drill made it a snap. It is solid cedar, but it is thin cedar, so I wonder how many years I will get out of it. Be careful as you fill it in with dirt. Since the pieces are on the thin side, they can bow out if you don't fill it in carefully making sure the sides are straight.
