1.0 out of 5 stars There are better books out there, October 10, 1999
This review is from: Greenhill Military Small Arms Databook (Hardcover)
This is a well written book, although it lacks the detailed written desctiptions of the firearm I prefer. The BIG shotrcomming of this book is that it only has a small section of pictures (in the middle of the book) and only a small number of guns are shown. I prefer to see pictures of every gun. I Strongly recomend against buying this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Review For This Book, March 31, 2000
By
This review is from: Greenhill Military Small Arms Databook (Hardcover)
I agreed with one of the previous reviewers. This book has a lot of information, but very little pictures. This book can be made better by including a picture with the descriptions of the weapons. Curiously, the book has a small section, O.k., barely there, on Smith and Wesson Pistols and Revolvers despite the important contributions of this gun manufacturers. What little there was on this manufacturer was from pre-World War II, nothing from the latter part of the 20th century. Although I had read and own other gun books by Ian Hogg, I found this book disappointing even though Mr. Hogg is considered to be a notable authority in the areas of firearms through his work with the publication Jane's Infantry Weapons.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not really a lot of data in this book., July 1, 2000

This review is from: Greenhill Military Small Arms Databook (Hardcover)
If you like me you like to see the pictures of the firearms as well as a description. This book does not. It has plenty of information on guns and a list of guns and their specifications. There are only a couple of pages of photos in the middle of the book but can't make up for it. All in all if you need information on gun calibers, manufactures, and gun vocabulary but without the pictures you should get this book but i don't really recommmend it there are much more better books out there like some of Ian's other books.

First Sentence:
The weapons in this section are, for the most part, listed under their maker's name or under the names commonly associated with them; unfortunately this system cannot be easily applied to the profusion of European military revolvers of the later years of the 19th century, and these are listed under their country of adoption. Read the first page
