From the Publisher

Clay Morgan and four friends, born and raised in the city of Los Angeles decide to have an adventure by going in search of the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine in the deadliest area of the United States - the Superstition Mountains of Arizona. Anything that can happen, does happen to these men. They encounter life threatening situations from nature, the terrain, wild animals, and even man.

When wealthy rancher Paul Rockford discovers them near his marijuana farm high in the mountains, he sets out to scare them back to the city. When they don't scare, he decides to kill them. They manage to get to the sheriff, only to discover he is in cahoots with Rockford.

Watching from the sideline is one tough and deadly lady, Big Alice Hatfield, saloon/brothel owner at the base of the mountains, who is determined to have the Lost Dutchman for herself.

Their adventure quickly becomes a struggle for survival.

From the Author

I wrote Greenhorns and Killer Mountains using my experiences as a police investigator, a private detective and a treasure hunter. Over the years, in my visits to the Superstition Mountains and in my readings about them, I have learned that many mysterious and deadly incidents have occurred in them over the past 150 years to adventurous men and women obsessed with finding the Jacob Waltz, aka, the Dutchman, lost gold mine.

I believe Greenhorns and Killer Mountains will lead you on a similar adventure through those deadly mountains while in the coolness and safety of your home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great! Well worth your time to read this one!, September 20, 1999

This review is from: Greenhorns and Killer Mountains (Paperback)
Jim Conover's middle name could be Adventure. The Pekin man is a retired cop, a partner in a private detective agency, and a treasure hunter. In other words, adventure does not have to bite Conover on the butt for him to recognize it. Conover proves convincingly he knows adventure intimately in the pages of his second book, a freshman fiction effort, Greenhorns and Killer Mountains. The book, set in the Superstition Mountains of Arizona, is a page-turner worthy of the time it takes to cover its 429 pages. It's a fun, modern American Western romp. Conover's strength in this volume is weaving adventure with character development. The characters come to life quickly and are developed in such a way that the reader can identify with them. The adventure at times seems a bit overblown, but, once into the book, you won't care. The pace is so fast there is hardly time to consider whether the scenario before you is completely feasible. This book is about total escapism within characters that everyday men and women can identify with. The folks in this book are what they seem, and, at the same time, more complex than they appear early on as the book progresses.

Once I began this book, I couldn't put it down! The story is fast paced, exciting and realistic. The plots and sub-plots are well written and when everything pulls together, you feel a part of the tension and excitement! The characters were carefully constructed and very believable. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy high adventure, mystery, humor and real people in their novels!!

Look out Jim Conover is on the scene! This book is fantastic. I absolutely loved. It's a great treasure hunting adventure with characters so colorful you know every one. I couldn't put the book down and when I did I felt like I had stepped out of a movie theatre, not put a book down.If you don't read another book this year, read this one, get to know Clay Morgan and Big Alice and feel as though you've been to the Superstition Mts. in Arizona. This book holds your interest cover to cover. Can't wait for his next book..
