For more economical choice, check out Pill Pockets for CATS,
By Andie has been taking pills for hypothyroidism for the past 9 years. Her pills are TINY. Wrapping them in meat or cheese never worked; she simply ate around the pill or spit it out. For years the only way I could get Andie to take pills was to, literally, shove them down her throat. (My hands are small enough and her mouth is big enough for me to do this. Thankfully she's a very trusting dog!) Then one day I was at the vet and noticed packages of something called "Pill Pockets". They had two kinds -- one for dogs and one for cats. Both came in flavors that Andie would like, but the dog Pill Pockets came in different sizes (small and large) while the cat Pill Pockets only came in one size (small). I looked at each package very carefully and noticed that the packages for cats had 45 Pill Pockets, while the packages for small dogs only had 35 Pill Pockets. And yet, the packages for small dogs cost MORE than the packages for cats -- huh? (On Amazon.com they are the same price, but the quantities are different.) So I looked at Andie's tiny thyroid pills, then looked at the Pill Pocket pictures on the packages and decided, "I might as well save myself a buck and buy the kitty Pill Pockets. What the hey, Andie won't know she's eating something intended for cats!" I've been happy with that decision ever since. I've bought both the salmon- and chicken-flavored Pill Pockets FOR CATS and Andie likes them both. The pockets are the perfect size, just big enough for her thyroid pills, and to date she has gulped down every one, then begged for another! And I like the fact that I get 10 more in each package than I would if I bought the Pill Pockets "for dogs". Pill Pockets are GREAT product, for cats OR dogs. I wish I had discovered them sooner! While I have never used the Pill Pockets for Dogs, I am 100% confident that they are excellent. That's why I'm giving this product 5 stars. If Andie's pills were bigger I would get the Pill Pockets for Dogs, and I know she would like them just as much. For the time being, though, I will stick with the smaller Pill Pockets for Cats, since they last a few days longer. So, this review is to pass along an idea that perhaps some dog owners had not considered: If your dog takes tiny pills like Andie does, go with the more economical choice and get Pill Pockets for Cats. Your dog will never know the difference!

My dog has to take seizure pills and after 2 months of shoving them down her throat and finding the pills around the house, I saw Pill Pockets at the vet. She likes them, the pills don't get spit out, and I don't get growled at, it's great! The pills are tiny, so I split one pill pocket up and can wrap four pills up. I put the extras in an empty pill bottle to keep them fresh. She doesn't mind the smaller size. They do leave your hands kind of greasy though.

the pill pockets are supposed to be little ROUND treats so you can put the pill in the middle. The packaging Amazon used is what they would use for a flat book. This whole package is smooshed and ruined and one big flat sheet of treats. This is the first time I have ever had a problem with Amazon's shipping. I will not be ordering this item again from them and I am a little disappointed because this is the best price I have found for these anymore! I guess the cheap price comes with a cost!

Be careful, made 1 of my dogs very ill,

I must admit these do work for getting your pets to take pills - 2 very finicky dogs who almost always spit out their pills in any food did scarf their pills down when put in these. However, after only 2 pills (separated by 8 hours), one of my dogs (8 month old puppy) became violently ill about 2 hours after the 2nd pill pocket with numerous episodes of explosive diarrhea and vomiting (ultimately very bloody after 12 hours). It ended up costing us money for a vet visit and medicine to get the dog to get well, and a major scare that the puppy was going to die (could hardly move after 18 hrs of this). The medicine was not new, nor any thing else changed, so I presume it was due to these (certainly not going to try them again to see). Our other dog (full adult) did fine, however. Maybe it should just not be used for puppies, or maybe it's just an unusual reaction, but if you google "pill pockets diarrhea", you will see this is an occasional known side effect.
Would suggest trying just one of these each of the first few days to make sure your pet is not intolerant of these. 1 out of 2 for me was not good odds.

I found wrapping my tiny tot's pills in a little ball of wet dog food was simple and seemed more palatable than the greasy, foul smelling greasies oops I mean greenies. He used to toss them around but hesitated to eat them for ages until I became concerned. Wrapping the pills in a wholesome freshly opened canned dog food is better in my opinion.

It's nearly impossible after a few days to get our dogs to take their pills. The first day you can stick it in some peanut butter and they're fooled. The next day they say no to PB but will eat it in salami. The third day maybe a dab of honey will do the trick. By the fourth day they won't eat anything with the pills in them....until Greenies came into our house! Never again will we have to worry about fighting with our dogs over taking their meds!!

A lifesaver for a pet owner whose pet spits out its pills!,

My 1-year-old Shih Tzu, Missy, was recently diagnosed with a skin infection and allergies, so the vet prescribed an antibiotic and an allergy med twice a day. At first, I thought it was going okay with my hiding the pills in a piece of banana or cheese...but then, I started finding pills all over the place...she'd been appearing to eat the food while in front of me and then going elsewhere to spit out the pills!
I was seeing my money go down the drain as these antibiotics and allergy meds went anywhere (including staining my carpet!) but IN HER TUMMY! Finally, a friend who has a cat suggested pill pockets, so I ordered a small packet of these beef flavored ones to see if they would work. WELL! She not only takes her meds now, but she BEGS for them as soon as she sees me open the package of pill pockets! I am FINALLY seeing her skin clear up because the pills are FINALLY getting into her system...today I gave her a bath and her skin is clear! My only issue with the pill pockets (the ONLY reason I gave them 4 stars vs. 5) is that they are very soft and mooshy...I guess this is necessary so that you can mold the pill pocket around the pill, regardless of its shape or size...but I find it a little yucky. A few months ago, I may also have complained about the VERY strong smoky smell (like beef jerky), but I've gotten used to that via some treats Missy that loves. I will definitely be ordering these again...in a larger quantity!

Good Concept,
By I've tried breaking it into smaller pieces (she is a small dog), but she still won't eat it. This is a dog that LOVES treats and this is the only "treat" I cannot get her to eat. It's a good concept, but you may be wasting your money as I did.

Duck Flavor makes my 2 dogs throw up,
This review is from: Greenies Pill Pockets, Beef, 3.2 oz, for Tablets (Misc.)
Every time, every time, we give our two dogs their nightly pepcid in one-half of an "allergy formula," duck flavored pill pocket, they throw up hours later, whereas they don't throw up if we use the beef or chicken flavor.
