Book Description

June 23, 1997 0155028553 978-0155028555 1
The first balanced look at the evolution and significance of environmentalism, THE GREENING OF A NATION demonstrates the many attitudes Americans have held toward nature, as well as how these attitudes have created the social and cultural concerns of the post-1945 era. The text synthesizes the many facets of environmentalism in an even-handed manner, showing both the triumphs and shortcomings of the concept.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good, concise summary, but very wordy., July 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Greening of a Nation?: Environmentalism in the U.S. Since 1945 (Harbrace Books on America Since 1945) (Paperback)
How can a concise summary be wordy? Buy this book and find out. It clearly encapsulates the history of Environmentalism in the U.S. (as the title would have you believe) however this history is written in a very wordy and dry form. So dry in fact, that I thought maybe if I lit a cigarette nearby it would burst into flames. Thats how dry. In any case, it is a must-have for any U.S. environmental research (not counting the most recent years). Overall a good book, and just as action packed as a typical history text, just written in one of the most boring voices I have ever read.
